I really enjoyed this one. It took me a while because it's pretty dense, and I finally finished it on the plane home from Ontario. Immediately wished that I had moved the second book from checked baggage to my carry-on so I could keep going, lol.

I liked the different voices of Jane and Beast and the way the mysteries unfolded. I think now that I'm understanding the overall world I'll be able to get into the story more. I just didn't feel like I sunk into this one like I should. That's the only drawback for me. (OK, I could have used some sexy-times too.)

This book’s premise and storyline kept me interested
throughout the entire novel. The story is about a killer of “rouge” vampires who happens to be a shapeshifter with partial amnesia and her efforts to rid New Orleans of a murderous creature without getting herself killed by the creature she is hunting or by her clients.
I didn’t enjoy the belligerent and goading traits of the main character much but she had some redeeming qualities and I am interested in her storyline enough that I might try the second book in the series.

Jane is brought to New Orleans to look for a rouge vamp. A skinwalker, she is unique, and trying to learn who and what she is. This was an entertaining book in a genre that at times, is overfull of cliches of crosses, blood and silver. I enjoyed the perspectives from her 'other' half and the dynamics of two souls in one body were well balanced. Faith is a good descriptive writer, though it gets a bit long at times. Overall, a fun, diverting read for a lazy summer afternoon.

Was an interesting story, however it felt really drawn out and at times I had trouble concentrating. Glad I finished the book, however, and may try the next in the series.

I was hoping for something like the Mercy Thompson series that would hook me on (Native American heroine, shapeshifters, Native American folklore, etc.), but it just fell flat on me. Beast sounds like it was a hit or miss for many other readers and for me, it was a miss. I wasn't a huge fan of Beast's inner thoughts. At first it was fresh and new, but it quickly got old. I can't imagine reading more of Beast's inner thoughts. I wasn't so interested in the origins of Jane's bond with Beast. I appreciate that it took Jane time, calories, mass, etc. to shapeshift and Hunter tried to inject some "reality" into it, but I'm already an avid PNR/PNF reader, how much further of a stretch is it for me to accept that shapeshifters shift into their animal forms in less than 5 minutes?

little too much leather, harley, tattoos, and guns, but maybe that really appeals to someone else. still, i like the strong female character and the mystery and the cute boys are fun ... i'll keep reading.

3 and a bit Stars

The idea was so original and the Plot was fantastic, i really enjoy books with Cherokee legends and this mixed both past and present in well....

Jane came across as a little mechanical (except when speaking to her best friend and her "Kit") I'm sure as the books go on i will grow to like her, shes not unlikable by all means.

The beast and Jane was both interesting and a little off putting, when beast took form and the internal monologue and switching back all came across as a little fumbled and confusing for me, and it happens nearly every other page, But i liked the fact that the beast and Jane could converse...

The revelations, this annoyed me the most... I Hate when a character has a revelation or epiphany then the reader takes chapters to find out what it was , by that point something else has happened and i had to flick back to find out what Jane was talking about... This happened a lot....

I love the story the concepts are brilliant, i'm going with book 2 as i'm not sure if its the writing style or first book syndrome that's not making this a higher star read for me, still i'm glad i read it.
