God this book is everything. This is the first romance I've seen a trans character in where their transness isn't a plot point. And she's a stuttering bottom. This is the exact dynamic I would write.

The plot itself is a lot of fun too btw

Lily Seabrooke has not only crafted a wonderful story, but has crafted such a story with a strong, compassionate, intelligent, and all-around wonderful trans main character. Avery might just be one of my favorite main characters of all time. Here's why: 1. She saw the world around her filled with amazing possibilities. 2. She was brave by not only transitioning into the person she was born to be but was brave enough to step out of her comfort zone and open up a luxury restaurant in her favorite city. 3. She was able to be vulnerable on many occasions throughout the book. 4. She saw the good in people despite their flaws (except Mike Wallace and her nasty ex). 5. She was able to make all of her dreams manifest. 6. She overcame obstacles but didn't let them stop her from being persistent. 7.
She was hot!
The dialogue in this book sets it apart from so many others in this genre. While some authors tend to write stale or boring dialogue, Lily Seabrooke wrote this dialogue in a witty and charming manner. Sometimes it was like watching a tennis match between Avery and Holly as they would volley sass back and forth to one another. This book was just a delight to read. There wasn't any unnecessary drama and angst. Just a great story of two women meeting, then working with one another for a common goal, and falling in love along the way.

bought this for my library after reading about it in LJ and saw that it had a trans main character. when it came in i was a little worried because it was self published but it's a cute and engaging story that i think is worth a read.

Fake It!

I loved Avery and Holly they had such great chemistry and being in a restaurant setting was something I haven’t seen before!

Fake It follows the story of Avery, a trans woman, who had just opened up her restaurant, Paramour, but she’s struggling to get patrons into her doors. When a smarmy restaurant tycoon decides to target her restaurant, she teams up with Holly Madison, a celebrity chef. Together they resolve to take down this horrible man by having Avery on her tv show and in a twist of fate pretend to date.

This was such a fun read! The banter between Holly and Avery was TOP notch. I fucking loved it. Fun spicy scenes and fake dating. It’s a great match. I loved Avery’s character a lot. She was so bold and strong. She never was afraid to stand up for herself and others and I loved watching that. Such a badass.

Also note: this author is a trans woman as well and has other books that you should check out too!

Overall, 4.25 ⭐️ - great fun and sexy but too long. There’s lots of unnecessary lead up and it took me like 150 pages to really get into but once you’re in the thick of the plot and romance - it’s hard to put down! Also, I really really do not like that cover. It’s just… not good

A deeply ok book. I would've liked to see Avery and Holly developed outside of their relationship with each other. We never got to really see Avery's day to day life running a restaurant or Holly's job on TV. It would've been nice to see their characters built up individually as well as in their relationship. The whole fake dating aspect also seemed redundant as they fall for each other almost immediately. Another random thing that annoyed me was that every time they mention the villain of the book they have to call him by his full name. The first few times I get it but it would happen every time and im like!! I got it!!

I originally picked this book up because I wanted to read an f/f book where one of the women was trans and if that's what you're looking for, read this. It definitely wasn't bad it just wasn't that good either.

Fake relationship in which it makes *some* sense to work it that way, shaking up a stagnant reality program and boosting a struggling new restaurant. However, disliked so much focus on the villainess schemer and the poisonous ex. Plus the law of attraction a personal ick for me. Avery’s trans coming out to interested parties, and how it was an important part of her changing life was well done.
