Me ha gustado muchísimo, pese a no haber leído los anteriores de la saga, que pronto le pondré remedio que tengo ganas de conocer con más profundidad a los personajes <3.

So...book three of THIS BOOK BROKE ME AS WELL...

This was a really good book-it honestly surprised me, mostly because of the spells they used (I got jealous because I can't write spells as well as Christine can) and how Zev had Branislava choose to be with him, and had a fear of caging her if they mated (which they did). That was honestly the thing that made me give this book more stars.

The banter between him, Dimitri, and Fen was funny, including their lifemates were pretty funny. But when you add demons and hellhounds...well, now you got me intrigued. *Insert Jason Momoa chair gif here* But the thing that broke me was Branislava and Tatijana's horrible past, locked up as dragons behind ice and saw everything their father and his twins brothers done and knew every spell they did and I almost cried and felt sorry for them because they saw every horrible thing their father had ever done, and then I got proud when Branka got stronger each time she unraveled his dark magic, his shadow, before he actually did anything bad.

And the scene that made me cry was the couples dancing in the forest clearing..THAT BROKE ME (the final fight broke me too). I mean, the couples and the children, they were so cute dancing around, that small moment before all hell broke loose (and I mean, all hell broke loose).

But the ending, when those three High Mages summoned Hemming, Zev's grandfather...OW MY HEART. That hurt so much. And he was wrapped in silver chains? Owwwie ow ow ow. And he didn't have long, so Branka took off the chains and he talked till he died...but ow that hurt so much. I think now when senior characters die, it makes me think of my grandmother that passed away. I mean, she's been gone for a couple year now, but it still hurts though...

Other than that, I loved it and the feels and PEOPLE BREAKING ME but I'm okay now..till the next book that may or may not break me.

This was definitely disappointing for me. The writing just didn't seem as good as in previous books. Rather than add to the story, the amount of chants/spells/carpathian language was annoying. Also...
the very random plot point of Xavier suddenly being a triplet? And his brothers being named Xayvion and Xaviero? And in the very book they were introduced in there is a battle and Xaviero, the supposedly worse one, is killed. But at least there is one more for them to kill in the next book? Though maybe then Feehan will decide then that Xavier was actually a quadruplet. Or Quintuplet.
The sex scenes were even disappointing. I cringed every time he mentioned Branka's "cinnamon". It got to the point where I was actually skipping over parts of them. It was just bad.

Every single time I think about quitting this series, Feehan keeps pulling me back in. I enjoyed this book for the most part, but I did have some issues. It was ridiculously repetitive regarding Zev's status as a mixed blood Carpathian and Lycan. It felt like this was stated every other page. Okay, we get it! Also, some of Zev's more domineering moments were a bit questionable with Bronnie's consent. This is fiction, so whatever. That moves me to Branislava, Zev's lifemate. She was so adorable and kickass at the same time. She was wonderful and it was nice to see a strong female in the lineup when there has been so many weaklings in the previous books. Bronnie is Tatijiana's twin and they can both transform into dragons! The side plot concerning Xavier the evil mage was ridiculous, but Feehan has written worse plot points. All in all, I really liked this couple and I feel the author has moved over her plateau of crappy books. This is number twenty-five in the Dark series. Twenty-five! I better like this next couple or I'm dropping you like a dragon egg.

Frankly this book is lucky to get two stars. There were only a couple of things I liked about this story.
One was the brotherly banter and relationship between Zev, Fen and Dmitri.
The other was one particular scene where some of the Carpathians gather to dance under the stars. The scene was sweet and lovely and somewhat nostalgic as we get a glimpse of previous main characters enjoying a light moment.
It goes downhill from there. The repetition in this story is ridiculous. One example was being reminded what felt like every other page that Zev is a 'Guardian of All' not a Sange Rau. Yes we know!!! And so does everyone else!
There were alot of spells in this book. Yes,I get that they were battling mages but having that amount of spells was unnecessary and was really only filler. The only advantage was the spells were written in a different font and format so I was able to skim.
And finally to my biggest problem. The sex scenes. They were so badly written. For one thing they were ridiculously long. For another some of them were frankly disturbing. I've noticed it in the most recent books in the series. The sex scenes are becoming more drawn out and explicit. There is less tenderness or romance and more straight up rough sex scenes. As for one particular scene,it crosses a whole lot of lines and was wrong on so many levels. Actually the more I write in this review, the more I think of changing it to one star. I'll leave it at two only because of the sweet group Carpathian scene.
One of the worst books in the series.

I really enjoyed Zev and Branislava's story and the overall 3 part arc with Dimitri and Fen. I feel overall Branislava was very much like her sister in falling fast and hard for her other half and I very much enjoyed reading about Zev's entrance into the Carpathian world and how he manages to balance the wolf in him.

Much like many of Feehan's book, there is a repetitive nature to it that as an avid reader of her books you just kinda get used to.

The Carpathian language I don't mind, I actually enjoy it. The spells for me are a bit cringe worthy and I tend to skim them. They don't add much to the actual story line and do tend to feel like page fillers which is sad.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and their story and do feel like it's a good addition to the series.

This book really doesn't even deserve 3 stars but it's Sunday so I'm being nice.

I have a thing for vampires and the supernatural. And I like the occasional sexy times in my romance novels. But this book? Ugh.

Boring, ridiculous "spells" in Feehan's made up Carpathian language (Tolkien she's not). The recycled villain(s). The sex with a woman who can't move (her body is asleep)! Yeah, technically she consented, but c'mon! Was that scene really necessary?!?

I skimmed thru a LOT of this book (sacrilege for a true reader), but I just couldn't take the monotonous repetition. I've continued to read this series because I like the "world", and I'm a sucker for the supernatural, but the only book(s) out of the 26 that I really remember are the first (the Prince's story) and Ivory's and Razvan's story (theirs is my fave). There are a few other stories I enjoyed but the details run together in my mind.

Maybe that's the problem with writing an open-ended series with no clearly defined destination- you end up with LOTS of filler (wack "spells", repetitive and cringe-worthy sex scenes, repetitive character and backstory descriptions).

Even at its best this series is not great literature, but it has entertained me on occasion. I'm not sure if Feehan has just run out of gas creatively or if she has given up and is just phoning it in for a paycheck. Either way it's disappointing that more care was not given to a series with a fairly interesting world.

Update: I reread this on 6/18/2019. I don't feel quite the intense level of disdain as I did in my initial review (dramatic, much?!), but I understand the issues I had back then. Those issues didn't bother me as much this time--maybe because I skipped even more of the book. Lol. Yeah, the triplet villains were still lazy, and I skimmed completely over the sex-with-the-lady-who-can't-move section, but overall I was left with a better feeling when this ended the second time around.

So much fun to read the three Lycan stories back to back. Love the connection between Zev and Branislava and the way their romance develops. Great story with a lot of action.
