5 whopping stars.

“men often think they deserve a sticker for treating women like people.”

—this book honestly blew me away. it’s about a band called the six who end up joining up with a rock star named daisy jones, and their experiences as a band as the years go on; you get to see it from their own perspectives because this book is written in interview style! it was a very interesting take on writing because i have never read a book like this before, and i enjoyed it very much.

—i personally felt very connected to daisy; not in the parent aspect but the fact that she feels like no one sees her and she uses negative coping skills to deal with that. i can understand that, but i can also feel for the people who did not enjoy her character because it seems that she doesn’t want to get better. one thing i always say is that you won’t get any better if you don’t put in the effort and genuinely want to, and daisy eventually does and that really made me happy.

—i liked the feminism throughout the books, some examples being karen’s abortion and her wanting to be seen as strong and not in the wrong for getting one because she didn’t want a kid, i think it was dealt with really well. i think graham handled the situation horribly imo. if he truly loved her, i think he should have been on her side, no matter how much he wanted the kid. it wasn’t his place, and the fact that he dropped her afterwards sat with me wrong. another example of good feminism to me was daisy’s entire attitude towards life. she was a very “fuck your opinion, i’m gonna do me” woman and i appreciated that about her because she spoke up against herself and that was so important for me.

—billy was a hard character to judge because i felt for him but thought he made shitty decisions. i think eddie was my least favorite character, he was whiny and bitched about everything and it irritated me.

—i feel as though this book was such a found family book and it made my heart swell.

I was expecting more from this. I didn’t dislike it, but I truly thought more would happen. It felt like the band’s story was just getting started when it ended - there was a lot more that could have happened to make for a more emotional and longer story.

That being said, there was a lot to love. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the women’s confidence and strength to pursue their lifestyles. I loved Billy’s commitment to his family. I liked the portrayal of typical band drama.

I listened to Daisy Jones and the Six and it was cool in this format! I’m looking forward to the show.

Rock music scene in the 70s. It doesn't get more legendary than this.

The trajectory of Billy Dunne's band, The Six, changes when up-and-coming singer Daisy Jones is added to their ensemble. Their collaboration will give birth to a legend, it will be explosive and catalytic. But as much as it was meant to begin, it was also meant not to last.

Years later in a series of interviews Daisy, Billy, Graham, Warren, Karen and others, speak as candidly as possible, and often with conflicting accounts, about what happened before, during and after the two sides met and shed light on the aspects of each personal and professional story that shaped them. Sex, drugs, alcohol, passion for music, the pursuit of success, the desire to test the limits and the need not to cross them with disastrous consequences.

I cared about every character (yes, even Eddie,) because their feelings, their dreams, their misgivings, their bitterness about everything that feels unfinished all come out effortlessly and with just the perfect changes in povs. Senses are stimulated all the way to climax.

I cried. And that was good. If she writes like this in her other books it will be even better (for me!)

It looks like it was written to be an audiobook and it is. This is one of the best audiobook productions. If you can, listen to it. I will watch the tv series too 😍

"Passion is...it's fire. And fire is great, man. But we're made of water. Water is how we keep living. Water is what we need to survive."

“You're all sorts of things you don't even know yet.”

I'd give this a 3.5. Although the story hooked me from the very beginning, there's something lacking that I can't quite put my finger on. I have watched many documentaries about the rock bands from 60s and 70s and this book felt much like watching one of those. The writing is definitely good and I look forward to reading other works from Reid.
