Cute read. Sad I missed reading this one in order! I love Christmas stories... even in the dead of summer!

I guess there’s a reason I don’t read Christmas novels.

I greatly enjoy Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, but this novella —which takes place between books eight and nine—about a hawt Christmas angel (or whatever he is) and a bail-jumping toy maker was far too silly and self-consciously whimsical for me to get very far.

Stephanie, I’ll be back with Tasty Kakes when the holidays are over.

I can't say that I didn't like it, but I can't say that I did. Most of the book is forgetable, the plot is pretty boring and the writing is very sub-par for JE. The only real bright spot is the introduction of Diesel, whom I find intriguing, though not yet developed. I'm more in love with the idea of what she could write about using the Unmentionable plot line rather than what she is writing about. I put off reading the 'in-between-the-numbers' novels until I had read all the numbers novels first. I did this because her newer spin-off series with Diesel (Wicked series) is out now and I sort of wanted to read the prequels (if you will) in a row before I read Wicked Appetite.

Okay - really don't know how to take this novel. Is it fantasy? Is it a parody? Is it simply a grab for money?

SO CUTE. I like this little departure from the "real" world of Stephanie Plum, a dip into something a little supernatural -- was done very well and I really am hoping to see Diesel again.

Ok, so this fills in some gaps between 8 and 9 - Valerie's pregnancy - and introduces Diesel, but it felt a bit odd in patches having the supernatural intrude on Steph's life in Trenton. Whether that would have been different if I hadn't already read the other Diesel books, I don't know. I still liked it, and it's still fun, but it's a bit.. strange.

5 star - Perfect
4 star - i would recommend
3 star - good
2 star - struggled to complete
1 star - could not finish

i know this is just an 'in between' book of her plum series, but it just wasn't the same. yeah there were a few good laughs and we got to meet diesel, ANOTHER guy who has the hots for stephanie. but over all, the feel of the book just wasn't the same.

This is the first Stephanie Plum book I've read. I have a feeling most of them do not have "supernatural beings" as characters. Hunky Diesel appears in Stephanie's kitchen five days before Christmas. He has "abilities" but isn't an alien. Stephanie is looking for bail jumping Sandy Claws; Diesel helps, as it turns out that Mr. Claws is part of the reason Diesel has been sent. This reminded me of a Christopher Moore type of book.
