What a fabulous, fun read.

I don't know a lot about cosplay; it's never been my area of geekdom. Nerdism? Weeboness? This book draws distinctions between all three, but I'm still not sure which one I am. Not that it matters, as that's not the point of the story. This is a love poem to cosplay and all the work and imagination that goes into it.

I did have a minor problem; I followed along with the reasons they broke up, but I don't understand why Luca didn't try to explain things afterwards. Raffy had him blocked on socials, but they go to the same school, they're in the same class, and Luca knows where Raffy lives. He can't have tried too hard.

Still, that's a minor thing in this fabulous, fun book. And I even learned about flat backed sequins!

This book was /so/ cute. I have been having a terrible year and reading has fallen completely off my radar. I have a new job now and things are finally not so overwhelming, so I needed something solid to ease me back into reading. Luckily, this was the perfect book. What this book may lack in complexity it makes up for with sweet scenes, project runway vibes, and the best nerdy, nostalgic references. Overall, this book was light and easy to read. It did tackle some important themes, but not in depth. While I rooted for the main couple the whole time, most of the side characters were one note and underdeveloped. Raffy was a great main character to follow and I enjoyed reading about his personal journey the whole time. Luca was much less developed and still pretty one note, but I loved him despite that. This is one of those books that came along at the perfect moment in time; I’m so glad I read it when I did. I do want to read more by this author and I am very much anticipating his upcoming YA Horror novel, The Honeys!

Some YA is just too YA for my taste

An amazing queer young adult book about cosplay and creating. There's romance and friendship and anxiety rep.
The voice of the pov character is funny and entertaining and written really well.

I loved this so much. The writing is wonderful, and I adored Raffy. It was all around a delight to read.

3.5/5 - Truthfully, I really did like this book Raffy and May are great but I'm a little disappointed. Raffy and Luca make a really cute couple but for me something felt missing.....not sure what but something.....
