I don't even know where to start. This book has all of my favorite tropes wrapped up in one, plus add in Hockey, Charity, and Art. This is now my favorite book in the series, and Asher and Maeve completely stole my heart! Best Friends to Lovers, Brother's Best Friend, and Marriage of Convenience, just to name the big ones. Add in a charity date auction, a trip to Vegas, a dream job on the line, and a dog needing to be rescued. Oh, and did I mention that her brother, Max, is his teammate and best friend, too?
Asher and Maeve met almost a decade ago when they were both deep in grief from losing a loved one. They bonded in a way few people ever experience, and the friendship they built is something so special. This made "the fall" so much more fun to experience. They each have their own personal struggles they need to come to terms with along the way, and being able to lean on each other even more than normal helps them realize how special what they have really is. But, they have to decide if it's worth the risk. So many things are on the line; a job, reputations, friendships, a place to live. Go read it to see what happens. You won't regret it!
Also, Ruby Roo is pretty much the best side character ever. Give me a rescue dog any day of the week

I was lucky enough to get the audiobook and e-book early and I could not put this one down! Thank goodness for audio- when I had to be productive I could just pick up where I left off on my kindle.
The Proposal Play is a super fun book, third in Lauren Blakelyโs Love and Hockey series. I really loved the established friendship between Asher and Maeve and how perfect they are for each other.

Oh how I loved this book! It was the perfect balance of sweet + spice with the most lovable MMC and FMC ever. Maeve is a struggling artist and Asher is a successful hockey player in the NHL.
They met in a community group for grief and have been inseparable ever since. Maeve bids on Asher at a charity auction and thatโs how they find themselves in Vegas. The trip takes a turn when they decide their next big adventure should be finalizing their marriage pact with a quickie Vegas wedding. What happened in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Never! What started as a fun joke spirals into a marriage of convenience and two friends that canโt keep their hands to themselves. This book has a super sweet HEA and I couldnโt get enough!
This is the third book in a series of interconnected standalones but you donโt feel like youโre missing anything having not read the first two.

I love it when an arc comes out but when an ALC comes out at the same time, itโs even more special. Vanessa Edwin and Robert Hatchet narrated both Asher and Maeve above and beyond. I love to listen to audiobooks during my overnight shifts and this book captured me into this lovely world.
This is probably one of my favorite best friends to lovers romances that Iโve read in a long time. I only wanted more from these two. The closeness between these two was amazing. The fact that she wanted to protect him and her brother helped her in the auction made me so happy because Asher has been in love with Maeve for a long time.
The smut was out of this world. So spicy. Lauren knows how to make the spice absolutely worth it. One of my favorite scenes was when she walked in on him in the shower that led to the bedroom scene. What a whirlwind right there.
This book had the perfect mix of swooning with a bit of mental health in it. I love that Asher realized that he needed help because he was borderline protective of his fatherโs health along with Maeve. He just wanted everyone to be okay, which was super sweet.
I loved that Maeve got her break in her career. For a moment there, I was terrified that it wouldnโt work out, but it did.
The way they professed their love for one another was just so sweet! I loved that the two of them had a second wedding where their close friends and family were able to come. I loved the found family in this book.
I cannot wait for the next book and I hope that itโs Miles and Leightonโs book because that book is going to be so worth it.
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

The Proposal Play is book 3 in the Love and Hockey season and follows our favorite hockey player Asher and his best friend Maeve.
Asher is the hunky best friend of Beckett, Maeve's brother, and Maeve. They met 10 years ago after suffering losses. They supported each other and helped each other navigate the grieving process. That was the beginning of best friends. Not a three musketeers deal, but Asher and Beckett are best friends and Asher and Maeve are best friends.
Asher is doing a charity bachelor auction and needs his good luck charm with him. When Maeve has a wardrobe malfunction, Asher helps her solve the problem. While she is in the restroom freshening up, she overhears a conversation. When she tells Beckett about it, he gives her carte blanche to win Asher in the acution. However, he never expected what she would do.
So off the best friends go to Vegas for a fun concert and Vegas shenanigans. However, what happens in Vegas does not always stay in Vegas.
Before they can even return to San Francisco, they have been tagged on social media for their pay it forward generosity. But the posts also include their impulsive action. Now Vegas has invaded San Francisco.
Maeve is concerned that she is getting a artwork commission because of her relationship with Asher. She is not feeling confident in herself.
Asher is playing well, as long as his good luck charm is at the games. But while on a road trip he has a run in with an opposing player that shakes him.
As much as thee two want to claim they are just friends, so much more is going on between them. And has been for a long time. Personally, I think Beckett nailed it with his warnings to both Asher and Maeve.
The rules they established in Vegas, slowly get thrown out the window in San Francisco. Will these two remain friends when their Vegas shenanigans come to an end? Or will they finally admit what is right in front of their faces?
And that bomb that was dropped at the end. Dang, warn a girl. Let me just say, I cannot wait for that story.
I found it interesting that Maeve is the one who recognizes Asher's obsessive behavior. He worries about those he loves. Which, in turn, causes him to do extensive, read obsessive, research on whatever is going on in their lives. Although it is done out of love, he tends to cross lines.
And let me just say, I freaking love his dads. They are relaxed, easy going, fun dads. And they love him to pieces.
I loved Robert Hatchett as Asher. His tone, his demeanor, everything screamed his is Asher. And Vanessa Edwin as Maeve reminded me why I love listening to her. I will definitely be looking for more books by these two.

This new release from Lauren Blakeley has all the tropes I love - its a hockey romance, marriage of convenience, bestfriends to lovers, bestfriend's sister. It revolves around bestfriends Asher and Maeve. These two have been in each other's lives for a decade and have been slowly falling in love with each other until it accelerated when they knowingly got married in Vegas. I love how the book dealt with discussions of grief, anxiety, and just overall, mental health. I also like the jokes and banter between the main characters, Asher's teammates, and Maeve's girl friends. I enjoyed the tension between Asher and Maeve and the will-they-wont-they aspect of their relationship kept me going. Overall, it was a cute, romantic, and spicy love story.
Now, why did I rate this a 3? It pains me because I love the way Lauren writes. She's a great author. I love this series too with Max and Everly's book being my favorite but I felt a bit off with this book. It seemed too long and was draggy at times. I remember reading the other books in their series quickly because I couldnt put it down but this one, I needed breaks in between because the story wasnt going fast enough for me. The spice also felt unnatural and forced. They had done some things before they went all the way and maybe that's why the intended effect of them finally doing it didnt hit as good.
I think it's still a good book but maybe if its 100-150 pages shorter and the story a bit more organized, I feel like it would rate higher.
I got an early copy of this book as well. Thank you to the author and KP for the opportunity to read it in advance.

The queen of the sizzling sports romcoms has done it again. The Proposal Play was a fantastic friends to loversโ romance when Maeve โwonโ her bestie Asher at a charity auction. Their date involved a trip to Vegas where they decided the ultimate adventure would be a secret wedding. However, when the groomโs not only a hockey star but fronting an underwear campaign with posters of him all over town it wasnโt long before their secret got out and since the last thing either of them needed was to look flaky, their adventure became a marriage of convenience.
In a fabulous slowburn story with a whole lotta sizzle and spice and not forgetting toys, the love between these two friends soon deepened into something more even as they struggled to keep things strictly platonic for fear of ruining the friendship that meant so much to them but as time went on that thin line between friends and lovers blurred. Laden with sizzling flirting and wickedly delicious banter, there was such a huge sense of fun and laughter to their relationship making Maeve and Asher my favourite couple from Lauren to date. With humour-filled, fantastic story telling and well-rounded secondary characters most of whom will be familiar to regular readers, this author has created a world you wish you could be a part of.

Whenever Maeve Hartley and Asher Callahan get married on a whim while in Las Vegas, they think it will end in a quick annulment and a fun story. When they realize they are going to have to stay married longer than expected, feelings start to come into play. Can they figure things out without ruining their friendship?
Yโall - this book is excellent. Itโs my first book by Lauren Blakely and, no, it wonโt be my last. Blakelyโs writing is smart, fresh, and fun. First, the characters are strong and well written. They are interesting and multi-dimensional with interests and full lives. The side characters are fun and engaging as well. The work building is on point. The plot is well thought out. The banter between Maeve and Asher is entertaining, and their spice is next level. I love that Blakely always keeps their friendship in view because itโs the basis of their whole relationship. If I have any complaint, it would be that the ending felt a little rushed, but thatโs a minor quibble. Overall, this book is a five star beauty!
I highly recommend The Proposal Play. Read it and let me know what you think - Iโd love to discuss.
