Read this as part of the Emily Ley book club. There were a lot of gems, but the writing is from a heavily specific Christian world-view that rubbed me the wrong way at times. I’m probably not 100% the audience for this book, but I did still take a lot from it about the power of our thoughts and how they create our reality.

I was so disappointed in this book. I had hoped it would be a good resource for Christians who struggle with anxiety, but it reads very shallow and syrupy. It seems to dismiss the very real experience of living with intrusive and obsessive thought patterns, compulsive behaviors, and daily fear.

DID NOT FINISH: 21%

Having religious trauma is not ideal. Not for me. Tried to stick through and focus on the lesson but couldn’t do it.

There were some great nuggets in this book, and I appreciated how it helped me to refocus on Christ in the midst of life's chaos. However, there came a point where I started spacing out because it started all sounding like the same message reiterated over and over.

This is one I need to read more than once. Too often my thoughts are negative and spiral.

Do yourself a favor and skip to part 2 of the book where Jennie talks about how you can change your thoughts. This part of the book is where I did my highlighting and taking notes. Part 1 is a very long introduction and I’m not too sure what part 3 was supposed to be.

I probably purchased this book with the same expectation as many people, that Jennie would present me with a magic formula that I could use to combat the anxiety that has plagued me the last few years. Well I got something better. I received practical instruction that will allow me to identify and combat the thoughts and circumstances that make me anxious. Great book.

Not sure I’m going to finish this. It’s trite, over-simplified, repetitive, and disjointed. If the narrative you believe is that there is a devil out there specifically out to get you, then this author promises to give you the magic answer for overcoming that attack. If that’s not your narrative, then this book is just silly. Also, she claims her ideas are based on neuroscience; however, the bulk of her citations are Bible verses, and the science she cites is from more popular science sources rather than true scientific articles and research papers.
