I am not a fan of Elvis, nor did I know much about his or Priscilla before listening to this book.

The writing itself was pretty amateur and it was difficult to keep track of timelines because I feel like she didn't mention years/ages very often. I ended up getting kind of bored in parts because certain aspects of the story drug on while other areas that may have been more engaging were cut short. I also felt like I couldn't keep track of who some of the people mentioned were, that was either because she didn't explain well enough or because I was zoning out. It was pretty surface level throughout the book, which is fine if that is the level in which someone is comfortable sharing their story.

I listened to the audiobook that was recorded in 2022. I always appreciate when memoirs are read by the author, it does give another level of realness to them for me. However, many pieces of this story were seriously disturbing-Elvis as described by Priscilla was abusive, manipulative, had pedophilic tendencies, and other super concerning behavior. There were many times where she was telling a story that was extremely problematic and she ended up chuckling through as she told it. It's sad to me that she hasn't been able to gain much introspection on how wrong these situations were or how much the adults in her life failed her as a child. The chuckling got to be more and more concerning the more frequently it happened throughout the book. I was hoping for her to have additional insight since the original publishing of the book since almost 40 years have passed but that doesn't seem to have been the case.

INSANE LIFE. So glad Priscilla choose to have a coauthor because the book tells these incredible stories in an excellent way. The book flows so well and I couldn’t put it down. I watched the movie maybe a week after watching the book and loved it as well. It was also interesting to see what details were omitted from the film especially because Priscilla was so involved in the production.
p.s fuck elvis

I enjoyed that this book was told from Priscilla‘s point of view, and that she put some kind of negative things in there. I listened to the audio book and it was nice that she was the one who narrated it. And I liked that it was a little bit of insight into who she was when she was with Elvis and what her life was like.

Elvis and Prescilla’s relationship was majorly icky considering their age gap and power dynamics (enforced by age, gender, money, and Elvis’ general manipulation). I think Prescilla was trying to counter criticisms of Elvis as a master manipulator and drug addict, but to me (who only knows vaguely about Elvis’ substance problems and legacy), she failed in that mission. My dislike for Elvis grew as I read, and so did my sympathy for Prescilla. But, I did find the story very interesting, and it was SUCH an easy read, so it’s four stars from me.

This felt like a woman writing from a teenage girl’s perspective. There were many times that I felt awful for Priscilla- it’s obvious that at so many times she was taken advantage of, manipulated and let down by those who were supposed to be looking after and out for her. Even in this book, long after his death, she’s still trying to protect Elvis.

I saw "Priscilla" in the theatre when it came out and it made me curious to read the book. It was worse than I imagined. Obviously their love story is creepy and Elvis is super gross. What made this so hard to read was Priscilla's constant excuses for why he acted the way he did, and then accepting his terrible behavior and moving on. I understand she was young and it was a different time, but he consistently gaslights her and treats she like a child. I hated it. But also I couldn't stop reading.

I always find rating biography type books hard to do. However this book is very problematic and I would recommend not reading it if you are a huge Elvis fan because it kind of ruins that.

Sometimes it's best not to know.

shut up, priscilla presley.

Elvis Presley the predator that you are….
