In One of Us is Lying, the compelling first book of the series, a seemingly ordinary detention takes an unexpected deadly turn. When one of the five students present ends up dead, the immediate question is: accident or murder? The spotlight falls on the remaining four: the picture-perfect beauty queen Addy, the driven Ivy League aspirant Bronwyn, the rebellious bad boy Nate, and the seemingly straightforward jock, Cooper. Each harbors their own secrets, creating a web of suspicion. Could one of these individuals be a killer? This addictive mystery lived rent-free in my head for days and kept me guessing until the very end. Highly recommended for thriller fans that consider themselves a master of deduction. This book is for you. The twist? You won't see it coming.

Finally a good murder mystery that you really won't see coming. There were so many twists and turns in the plotline that it was so interesting to see how things played out. The ending was really cute, too. Always love a good "Insurgent" date night.
As I read, I started liking the characters, but, like the cover said, one of them was lying and I was honestly scared of getting too 'attached' to them only to get my heart crushed by the ending. That's how good the writing was. Suddenly we are immersed in the lives of teens who are each a suspect for their scandalous classmates' murder. We get to see a side of them that the rest of the world doesn't, we get to see their thought process and their feelings to the fact that one of the other three could have done it. We also see developments in their life (not gonna say bc obv spoilers).

I guessed the plot in the first few chapters which is always kind of disappointing
I can see how, if I read this as a tween, teen, or even twentysomething, I’d go gaga. The story is compelling enough, though some exhausted tropes are grating. And even for a YA, the writing is boringly simple, although it perfectly captures era/semi-decade mid-Two Thousand Teens (2013-2019)... as far as tech, social media, American culture, etc. Some YA transcends age, this doesn’t, but that’s okay. I recommend this for ages 12-25.

I thought this book was good until the endgame. The ending felt very sudden. Kris randomly being like hey btw Simon? And everyone being like oh omg and then it's magically just clear and obvious just seemed stupid? Either it should have been harder than people should have figured it out sooner.
I think overall there was good plot and characters. I thought the mystery was decent. I liked that everyone was plausible or had reasons but none were obviously it. I think the justification st the end was decent.
I'd say overall just mid. Nothing crazy great or crazy bad.

I absolutely loved this book! If you are into mystery then this book is perfect. It's like Breakfast club meets Criminal Minds!
