I enjoyed reading this book. There were a few moment that made me feel a bit umcomfy, like the gun scene. For this genre, this would have been a great scene, had it not been for the fact that this was not consensual. This could have been written differently or even later in the story where the fmc was consenting.

The mmc is kind of plain and I did not feel a deeper connection with him. His reasons for his acts seem odd and we barely know anything about him. I think the author wanted him to be mysterious but it did not come off that way. You don’t even know his last name until the second book, which shows how little we, the audience, know about him. The self awareness he has is great but I missed how he doesn’t learn and grow from this awareness. Not really much character development.

Fmc is just stupid and dumb at times. The contrast with her best friend who sees the danger from a mile away is just painful. She deliberately puts herself in situations where bad things happen to her. Then you get an inner dialogue about how stupid she thinks she is. At first I could read it and disgard it, but after a while it just became annoying. Again, there is self awareness but it is ignored and gets repeated.

If you are into dark, kinky romance, it is a good read. Only if you can look past the stated above observations.

This book is by far one of the worst pieces of literature that I have ever had the displeasure of reading in my life.

There is zero romance in this book. This is pure erotica with scenes of SA and abuse that H.D. Carlton has attempted to romantisice.

'Zade Meadows' is a walking contradiction and a red flag. He develops an unhealthy obsession with 'Adeline' and proceeds to terrorise the woman in her own home going as far as to SA her with a gun.

The author has tried to portray Zade as this 'morally grey' character. When in reality, he is a r*pist and a murderer.

Adeline is portrayed as a typical 'pretty woman with no brains'. She has no sense of awareness or basic common sense.

If you like being disgusted and disappointed then read this book.

This is one book I could not finish. It’s not worth the hype in my opinion. Given, I appreciate the author adding in a sub-par plot line, and giving some sort of caring plot line for Zade.

Some scenes were just unrealistic. Being quite familiar with firearms, I know how difficult it is to hit a target, and hitting a target dead center when firing from INSIDE a HOODIE pouch would be extremely difficult even for the most trained individual.

Need I mention the gun play? I think. Not

But we are led to believe that Zade is a man that cares for individuals being sexualized and trafficked. All the while being infatuated with Addie? But hates what the traffickers do to those they take. Then turns around and leaves Addie feeling violated and crying on the floor after taking advantage of her. It just doesn’t make sense to me on bit. It broke the immersion and only felt like it was added in for ‘spice’ factor and a plot that wanted to be used, but didn’t quite execute it properly.

Then the fmc, I’m sorry I just don’t have any pity for the girl from the beginning. I feel no connection to her or a reason to care what happened to Gigi.

Maybe one day I’ll give this book another chance, but today is not that day.
