Wow. This book lived up to the hype. I read this
alongside with the audio book and it made it 100%
better.

Whilst reading this I had to keep reminding myself that
it is fiction not a non fiction book and that they're not a
real life band. I loved the layout of the book and how it
was written in an interview style that jumped back and
forth from then and now. You got to see each characters different perspectives and perception of the same situation which was entertaining to read. I loved how the author dug beneath the perceived glamour of fame and focused on the effects of addiction.

“I had absolutely no interest in being somebody else's
muse. I am not a muse. I am the somebody. End of
fucking story."

This book is a must read.

I am very excited for the tv series!

Until the end this was a 3 star audio book. I was getting a bit bored and feeling like nothing was happening. But the end was very moving.

I listened to the audiobook of this book, which I highly recommend. It’s one of those that I think I enjoyed so much more because of the amazing performances of the readers. Such an engaging story and fun to listen to.

I had a hard time getting into this book because the format is magazine interview style. After a couple of chapters I stopped and switched to audiobook which made a HUGE difference for me. This may not be an issue for all readers but it’s worth noting. The audiobook had different voice actors for each character and it really brought the story to life. These characters were so beautifully written and the different perspectives made it like listening to a documentary. The voice acting made certain sections especially heartbreaking in the best way. If you’re looking for 70s rock n roll vibes with an authentic, heartfelt story this delivers.

I could not put this book down. Started and finished in the same day. It’s written in a different format and it took some getting used to at the start, but after a while it just made sense to see everyone’s point of view as the story progresses instead of changing point of view per chapter. It gave a unique spin and I appreciated it in the end. It’s almost like having everyone in the same room, telling the story in real time. I also love how the lyrics to the songs are in the back of the book - I can’t wait to see how they sound in the series on Prime. It’s on my list!
I really don’t want to say too much in fear of giving things away. I will say that, for Camile to have the beliefs and faith in Billy that she did throughout the whole book.. what she did towards the end kind of caught me off guard. I wasn’t expecting the last stretch of the book at all!
But I would definitely recommend this read - I put this book off for so long because I have trouble with a huge let down on overhyped books, but in this case, I think it was warranted.

TRIGGER WARNINGS:

Tropes: slow burn, forbidden love, second chance, and forced proximity.
