3.5 stars ⭐️. I loved the first 80% of this book, but the final stretch was extremely melodramatic and went on way too long.
I don’t usually read age gap romances where the heroine is older, but I had faith in Karina Halle and she did not disappoint in that regard! I loved the way that it was handled, and the chemistry between Thalia and Alejo felt believable.
The main thing that hindered my enjoyment of my this book was the length. I expected this to be a bit of slow burn and it’s definitely not—there’s a good bit of steam early on! But since the romantic elements are presented right at the start, the story started to drag near the end. So much so that I wasn’t sure what kind of HEA we’d get. The characters make decisions that don’t make much sense, and the tone of the book really starts to shift. It starts to feel more romantic drama than sweet, contemporary romance.
Maybe that supposed to be make their “will they, won’t they” dynamic more realistic, but all it did for me was kind of ruin a really good book.
Overall, it was fine. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it, but I’ll for sure read more by this author.

Pages in I knew I’d love this book and Alejo. His character had already shown serious signs of depth and emotion. I could instantly feel who he was as a person and I felt like I was there with him. The story of his family working hard for him to be able to play and buy him equipment is very real. So many professional stars talk about their journey to success and the sacrifices their families made. I could feel his desire to make it to the biggest stage. And I was rooting for him from the very beginning. Every emotion brought me in deeper into the story line.
I found Alejo’s confidence and charm captivating. The perfect amount of alpha male. He was very wise for his age. Life kind of forced him to grow up young. I loved the effect he had on Thalia. This book wasn’t a slow burn. BLESS. They couldn’t fight their attraction. The tension between them was evident. THE SAUNA SCENE. It was fire, flames, and pure explosion. This book was so hot I practically had to fan myself while I read it

Favorite romance of the year (so far)? UM YES PLEASE. I devoured this.
I enjoyed reading this book but had a few issues with it.
First off the heroine. This girl was all over the place. In the beginning she was acting mature but towards the end her actions don’t make sense. I get that she broke up with him for her career. But after she quit, it made no sense y she didn’t go back to him.
Secondly, the book def could’ve been shorter. It dragged on in the middle and towards the end, having a lot of unnecessary stuff.
Thirdly, I feel as though the portrayal of alejo was a little stereotypical? Like he’s made out to be this extremely passionate hot Spanish dude and it kinda came off wierd.
Also randomly adding Spanish phrases throughout just didn’t flow well, u can tell the author speaks one language naturally only.
Lastly, her football research

It's the most unexpected says we find ourselves
I've never read this author, a great thing about KU is getting to try out new ones. It's so often we hear about a man with someone half his age, it's almost normal. Yet in reverse, so many people see it as wrong. I hate double standards, I think love when found by consenting adults is a beautiful thing. I think what Thalia lost in her first marriage(herself), is so common in relationships. She found herself through a love so special with Alejo. I'm glad I took this journey. Great story.

i really enjoyed this book and i loved the setting and atmosphere a lot. karina halle is an expert at transporting you to whatever location her books are set in and immersing you. also alejo was so dreamy and such a sweetheart i just needed him to be happy. and the chemistry between alejo and thalia was top tier. at first i was afraid the book might rely too much upon just sexual chemistry to make their relationship work but i think there was a lot of emotional connection and chemistry that developed between them as the book went on which i appreciated.
however, this book wasn't a full fav because the ending pissed me off a bit too much and was a bit too dragged out.
tho i will say i'm happy thalia didn't get magically pregnant at the end of the book due to alejo's super dick or something and that they decided to adopt. super cute and i really want to read the spinoffs of this book
basically this book is hot and atmospheric and i have a predilection for older woman/younger man tropes so i had a stellar time would recommend

Spoiler
i didn't get why thalia couldn't have just told alejo that she was quitting real madrid instead of running away. also didn't get why she needed to take back her job an man united?? ig closer but,,, it was just annoying to me. i'm glad the conflict didn't get dragged out too long after they were reunited but...tho i will say i'm happy thalia didn't get magically pregnant at the end of the book due to alejo's super dick or something and that they decided to adopt. super cute and i really want to read the spinoffs of this book

Although I had some issues with the heroine's running away from her problems thing, I ADORED this book. I loved the love story, I loved Alejo, i loved Thalia (even though she frustrated me sometimes and I loved reading about soccer.
And that epilogue
