Marger-ate because she ate that. People say they struggle with this book because Margaret is an ‘unlikeable character’ but i found her unintentionally hilarious and no offence to my girl but more interesting than elizabeth. It was maybe a deliberate choice based on Margaret’s jealousy of her, but at the start of the book Margaret mentions how much she wants to see the queen suffer and suffer losing her son, yet when she plots to have the princes in the tower killed she says nothing about revelling in Elizabeth’s misery at this, which i think she definitely would.
6/10 Stars. Well written by Gregory of course, I simply found Margaret Beaufort (mother to Henry VII and grandmother to Henry VIII) to be a horribly vain and pretentious woman. She did fight for Henry VII right to the throne, but outside of that and giving birth to him, she didn't seem to do anything else that was decent or good. I imagine she would have been a nightmare to live with... Still, without her, no Tudor dynasty.

Review - I would put this one on par with 'The White Queen' story-wise, but I did find the characters more intriguing. However, I didn't connect with the characters - I felt disconnected watching from a distance rather than getting involved in the story and invested in the characters like I was in 'Lady of the Rivers'. I think that it was clever to cover only the key periods where there was action, because Margaret was a player for so many years. The thing that really intrigued me was the relationship between Margaret Beaufort and her son, Henry VII - I thought that kept the story moving.

I feel like I just read the The white queen all over again. The first 50 pages of the book were original, as well as the last 50. Everything in between was a rehash of the last book.
I have to admit that I caught myself avoiding this part of the series because I was a bit sceptic about the main character. I was pleasantly surprised and I loved it just as much (if not more) as the other books in the series!
