This book centers around Bianca Piper, a relatively popular kid with a group of atrractive female friends whose perception of herself is turned upside down when a popular player, Wesley tells her she’s the “DUFF." This stands for Designated Ugly Fat Friend.
Despite his hurtful label, Wesley and Bianca begin a sexual relationship that might be turning into more and Bianca sets off on a journey of self-exploration that culminates in the realization that everyone considers themselves the DUFF at one time of the other, regardless of looks or weight.
I thought this book was going to be a really silly book based on the title, but it was good. The main character was funny and smart and the book does not hesitate to address issues (alcoholism, teen sex, etc.) in a realistic way. It kept me engaged and I quite enjoyed it.

I read this book after seeing the trailer for the movie. From the trailer, I expected it to be like Mean Girls, but I was happily surprised. I love Mean Girls, but I was glad this book was different.
The story was fairly predictable, but it was still entertaining. I appreciated that the story wasn't censored the way a lot of YA novels are, making teenagers out to be more naive or innocent than they really are. (Not that all teenagers are hooligans who have sex all the time and whatnot, but you know what I mean).
Overall, it was an entertaining read, with an important lesson about accepting yourself and treating people with respect and kindness. DUFF pride.

I saw this was being made into a movie so of course I wanted to read it. It was okay. I couldn't really relate to Bianca. She seemed to complain about everything, basically your typical teenager. While the story was interesting, some parts seemed overly dramatic and the ending felt rushed.
I rented the movie after finishing the book. Other than the name and the names of the characters they are COMPLETELY different. Not just like they changed or left out some scenes different, but like the whole thing is different. I think this made me appreciate the book more because it had a more unique storyline, whereas the movie was pretty much something I've seen before. However, I liked Movie Bianca much better than Book Bianca.
I recommend saving your time and skipping both the book and the movie.

I decided to pick up a copy of this book before the movie came out and I really liked it. This book makes you laugh but at the same time it gives you things to think about. Bianca is a hillarius character with witty humor and a bad-ass BS detector. I like that the problems she have is something that she is aware of and trying to stop with but at the same time shows people how hard it can be. This book has a really good message and I wish I would have had this when I was 15 and always felt like the black sheep. I command every teenager out there to read this, it will make life a whole lot easier.

Wesley Rush is the most in demand guy at school, has the biggest muscles, and an even bigger ego. When Wesley informed Bianca that she was considered a DUFF- the designated ugly fat friend- everything no one expected to happen, happened. Friendships are made and broken, and people from long ago in Bianca’s past resurface. All of this puts Bianca in need of a distraction.
This young adult fiction is full of drama, sex, and handfuls of “eff” words. All in all it accurately represents a normal high school. I loved the book and finished it in a day. I would recommend it for readers ages 16-19 who need a little drama in their life.

This book was way better than I thought it would be. It was a really easy read and at first I wasn't a fan of the writing style, but was incredibly impressed when I found out Kody Keplinger was only 19 when this was published. I am always super supportive of young female writers! I've owned this book for like ever and never actually read it until I saw that the movie was coming out and it actually looked cute. Anyway, this was a super easy and enjoyable read! I might even check out Shut Out some time.
3.5 stars
I was expecting so much more from this book but it's okay. It's short & sweet & a quick enough read.

I agree with most of the criticisms others have written. However, I did enjoy it. It was a super fast, easy read for older teens.
Sometimes it was predictable. Even so, I still couldn't put the book down. Bianca is also a very relatable character.
I can't believe how much I loved this. What a gem.
