This prologue is one of the darkest I've read in a HR. Atherbourne is definitely charismatic and I can totally understand the heroine being drawn to him right away. I'm not into insta-love but I loved their chemistry since their very first encounter. Those two are fire incarnated. I loved the all vengeance plot and how we slowly discover the truth. Victoria is an amazing heroine who deserved better than have Colin for younger brother. This character is one of the worst I've read in HR. How people keep finding him excuses is beyond me. I completely understand Athersbourne's need of revenge and wish he could have it. But for romantic purposes I get it that he can't. Beside, him and Victoria are too adorable together. When he discovers her drawings of him... swoon.

I've read the first 3 books of this series so far and this one is still my favorite. But I still have to read Chatham's book, who is apparently a fan favorite. He definitely got me intrigued so far.

This book was just okay. I read the prequel to the series first and have seen a lot of recs for the Rescued from Ruin entire series so I'm going to forge ahead and keep going. I know her Midnight is Scotland series is FIRE so I'm hoping these early books are just a warm up to this series. She writes with lots of emotion but I mostly felt sadness with this book and I need to balance that out with warm fuzzy true love--this part was lacking in this tale.

The story was good, but I don't seem to care about her characters as much as I have in other series. The characters in book 2 were a bit more compelling, gonna try book 3 before I move on to another author.

I throughly enjoyed this story from start to finish. The angst is what really drove this story. I was invested in the revenge plot and the revelations surrounding this couple. The steam was jumping off the page very early on. What I enjoyed most was the pull/ back and forth between the two main characters. There was a lot of dark themes, but that just further enhanced my enjoyment overall. I look forward to continuing more in this series.

Went as far as I could. The MMCs treatment of the FMC was awful. I couldn’t take it.

I’ll be honest, I couldn’t make it to the end no matter how hard I tried.

The start was intriguing but as the story progressed I found myself growing more annoyed with both Victoria and Lucien. I really didn’t like how Tori seemed to jump from being upset about not being allowed to see her family to just forgetting all that just because she’s attracted to her husband? Nah, I’m not going to be cheering for this relationship to succeed. It seemed to be toeing the line between abusive from both ends.

I was intrigued about the Jane and Harrison interaction and I will check out the other books to see what they’re like.
