This book was overall super interesting. it was a fairly slow start and took about four or five chapters to really get into the story. It is also pretty confusing at first, with a number of names and places thrown in your face, and at the beginning much of this is irrelevant. After the story gets going, though, the plot moves much quicker and the characters begin to gain a deeper story. The fantasy setting and plot are well built and the characters all have deep backstories and their own voice.

I have tried reading the Grisha Trilogy about a year back and couldn't get myself into it. (It was around the time that I was in a reading slump). So, I was a little apprehensive when I decided to read this book. Let me tell you:

I shouldn't have been worried.

This book is honestly incredible. If I could give it more stars, I would. At first, I was a bit confused because she was talking about all of these creatures and all these people that it was really overwhelming. Though once you get into it, it is an unputdownable book that I couldn't get enough of. The different character P.O.V's honestly were a little weird at first but they did help you gain insight on what is going on in different places and you can't help but feel attached to certain characters. (I grew attached to Kaz. You can't help but fall for the hot and discouraged individual who has learned to hide his emotions, but came face-to-face with them and found love in the end.) I can not wait for the next one.

(Don't worry Inej! Kaz will save you!)

This one was a slow read for me. I was having the hardest time connecting with the first part of the book. After I got to that one hundred page mark I started to worry I wasn't going to connect with the book at all. It did come eventually! My moment of interest was when they officially boarded the boat for the heist. The multiple POV took away my interest at the beginning of the book. They were incredible during the heist, but I personally feel like the beginning could have been okay with just Kaz walking us through everything since he was the one getting the offer. My disappointment with this book really came from the lack of connection I felt, when it came to the Shadow and Bone trilogy I was hooked from page one, so I was saddened that I didn't feel the same connection with this one. Especially to how well-regarded this book was. I am hoping that because of the ending and how it picked up in this book that Crooked Kingdom will be redemption for this duology and keep my interest from beginning to end.
