These are short books (around 200 pages each), and I read through them fast enough that I honestly am not sure where one book ends and the next starts, so I am writing the review for the trilogy on the last book, with spoiler tags.

lmfao.. wait what?

An Assassin's Deception kind of fell into the dreaded second book slump. It was cute but, ugh, I have no idea what the hell happened. I feel like nothing really did. Yes, the smut and sex were freaking gold.. but everything else was just meh. Terrible even.

Now what sucks for me is that I actually like this group of people. The first book grabbed my attention and I was dying to dive into this one. However, it was such a let down and that disappoints me so freaking much. I did read through the other reviews and I heard that this series might have a third book in the works. I hope it does because I really want a redemption book.

I fell like nothing really happened in this book, whereas so much happened in the first book. Plus the characters grew more in the first one - not so much in this one. Again, such sadness. I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did.. but I just didn't and couldn't.

Overall, ugh, I seriously hope there's a book 3.

An Assassin’s Deception is the second book in the Huntress series and even better than the first!

Alexa and the guys are in hiding after killing the leader of the assassins, and trying to get by doing odd jobs that utilize their unique skill sets. A girl and four guys living together in a one bedroom apartment isn’t ideal, and Alexa gets pretty up close and personal with them all!

This story was very very steamy which I loved! From the first scene throughout the entire book Alexa gets a lot closer to the guys and slowly begins breaking down some walls they all have up.

We get some new secondary characters in this book which I also really enjoyed. These authors do not skimp in their books giving us plenty of characters to enjoy besides the mains! I loved the addition of some family members in this story because it gives a deeper look at Alexa and the guys as well. With these new characters comes more history and background that really helped fill in some blanks in Alexa’s past.

An Assassin’s Deception is a great read that had me laughing out loud one minute and falling off the edge of my seat the next! I can’t wait to read the final book in this series by these very talented authors!

I liked that we get some more backstory on all the main characters while their relationships develop, and I appreciated the adversity that was thrown into the group for some drama, but I still had so many issues with the plot in the books in the series.

In this book, the group got hired by a family to look for a missing girl who
Spoilerwho ended up revealing that she's adopted and actually the FMC's half sister from a secret assassin breeding program.
I was very confused at this initial premise to begin with - were they assassins for hire or were they running an investigative agency? But going down that path regardless, we somehow ended up with the group wanting to change their goals mid-way through the book after they found out more secrets about the League and Derek and have some more friends and family join them. Spontaneously, they began planning how to set up a full
Spoileranti-League League.
The book now started to sound like a superhero movie plot with lots of sex and sexy thoughts thrown in instead of just a singular group goal to take down the League for their own personal revenge reasons.

Speaking of Derek, the point of the group co-opting random housing was so that the League can't track them down. When their enemies found out where they live to confront them, why weren't they immediately finding a new place to live?!?!?! They already had so many complaints about the one-bedroom apartment due to lack of privacy, yet at no point were any members of the group described to try and look for new housing. Derek was a very predictable overpowered one-dimensional evil villain who could both teleport and siphon in addition to other new powers that conveniently surprised the group whenever they battled. The dramatic reveal in the end about him being
SpoilerAlexa's father
could be seen miles away. Also, man was it naive for them to think that
Spoilerthey killed Derek in the end when his body disappeared. Haven't they watched any bad guy movie plots?!?!

I was also very confused at how Alexa's time pausing ability works. As far as I understood, it would pause time for her and whoever wasn't caught in it to give her extra 60 seconds while it was real-time for everyone else. She tried to use this ability when one of them is injured by pausing time for him... but that made no sense? Wouldn't that just prolong his pain unless she could somehow pause time for everyone but him and the healer traveling to him?? So odd. I also had issues with her poor timing of using her abilities during action scenes when she was supposed to be this bad-ass experienced assassin -- don't even get me started about her siphoning abilities.

On the bright side, contrary to the last book, we finally saw some more interactions with the outside boring human society even if it didn't make much sense world-building-wise. The assassins continued to be disjoint from normal human life, and it still wasn't really explained how they were hired or sent on missions.

Once again, my impressions were that this was a light and entertaining fast-paced action read with hot smutty scenes, but story-wise it really was quite weak. It was also littered with typos and could have used some thorough editing. Looking at the reviews for the last book in the series, I don't think I'll try to attempt to read it.

So far, this series was written more like an erotic romance, and the story plot does not seem to be the focus of the series. Although, the romance and sexy time were both better compared to other RH I've read recently. However, the personality of each character in this series still lacks creativity. That is, most if not all RH I've read so far all have very similar male characters.

I thought this book was just as interesting to continue the series. I read a few reviews that didn't like this book as much but I thought it was a great part. I can't wait to read more in this series.

Decent continuation, but where was the editor

I wanted to like this one, but it was so hard to enjoy it when it was riddled with typos and grammatical errors. There were so many missing words and letters. I’m usually not that picky about typos, they seem to be very common in indie books but this one just had too many to ignore. There were other issues that a good editor should have caught as well. For example, at one point the main character is internally debating whether to do one thing or the other and the sentence in something like ‘I didn’t have time for blabla so I went with option A’ but actually she was going with the second thing. I had to read that part over and over to make sense of it.
