What am amazing read!

I'm so happy that I came across Stephanie West in a FB group talking about her books. After talking with her I knew Nameless Fate was the first book of hers that I wanted to read and it didn't disappoint. The way she was able to meld sci-fi and paranormal was flawless when she transported me to the world of Torvus. I can't wait to see what Fate has in store for the other characters!!

It was Ok until the H decides he has to RAPE h to "protect" her from the other inmates (more like he didn't want to look weak in front of his prison buddies, the way it's written), after he brought her back (because she had escaped, by the way, and was perfectly safe AND with a way out, but this guy sees her and decides she's gonna be his plaything, so he takes her back). And the author makes h like it. We are constantly told Harper is a badass, but I didn't see much of that. And of course, the overbearing, patronizing asshole is always demeaning her, and seems to see her as a sexual object and not much more.
And if that wasn't bad enough, he keeps forcing her (granted, the other times it's more like dubious consent, but it's still not OK), and then the freaking werewolves (along with the weird seer lady) basically force her to mate and bond with him in front of everyone. Without telling her exactly what it entails (and she hated the idea of public sex before, that's why she says no the first time; but now she's perfectly OK with it).
I kept reading because the minimal plot is kind of interesting, but there's much more sex than actual plot (at about half the book I just skipped the sex scenes because they were unnecessary and just got repetitive). And because I got the third book for free via Bookfunnel, and since they're not standalones, I tought to start here. I'm not sure I will continue.

Harper a bond agent is kidnapped from earth on account of her unusual tattoo and a prophecy.
Due to her not playing the submissive female and accepting her new role she finds herself thrown into the hold a prison deep in the mountain where the prisoners are left to survive however they can its survival of the fittest and baddest down there.
Catching the reluctant eye of Nameless or Shadow as Harper initially calls him her new reality is a living nightmare and Harper must learn to survive however she can.
So I really liked both Nameless and Harper, Nameless was just so alpha and dominant but he was also super protective.
He was a complete hard-ass but could also bend just for Harper when it was warranted, he also took no bull from her and made the hard choices when needed.
I also adored the sexy way Nameless pronounced her name HARpurr, so delicious.
Harper well she was resilient without being over the top tough, she recognised that she needed a protector in the hell-hole she currently found herself in, she was the right balance of capable but also knew when to stand back and her self-sufficiency only made her more attractive.
The chemistry and heat between Harper and Nameless was scorching and I loved the rough and dominant claiming between them it was super hot.
This was told from dual POV and was a really decent length.
This managed to keep my attention and was a really great well-written story and I would definitely recommend I enjoyed it massively.

I loved this book. I was impressed with the world and the story. There was a lot of thought put into the background and the ultimate goal of these characters. Yes, this happens in every book, but as I've read over 80 fated mate or alien romance books this year, this one seemed to be more of a "story" and there was a lot more for the characters to overcome in order to get to their HEA. Then again, it was longer than the books I usually read.

In this series, Harper is abducted from Earth and sent to Torvus (?) to be the consort of the prince. When she essentially refuses, the king sends her to an underground prison. She was a bounty hunter on Earth so she has some survival skills, but mostly survives by the help and protection of "Nameless", who she also calls "Shadow" who has been in prison since he was 15 and before that an orphanage. They work with others to find a way out of the prison (before that I really enjoyed Harper's friendship with a group of primitive people that live near the prison essentially underground) but along the way Harper is hurt, bringing them together with Galen, a healer of sorts, who ends up telling Nameless about his history and who he really is.

Then after they get out they need to find and kill Kral Not, the king, who was the reason that Nameless had been repeatedly under attack and in the prison and save the prince who has been abused by the king his whole life.

I feel like this could be a standalone if you want it to be, but in the epilogue there is a cliffhanger to the next book, and since there are only 3 in the series, you may as well read them all ;) I know I will.

Just as I thought, trash.

description

This book made me a wee bit mad- but I held on an finished it. To bad because I like the premise. Bounty hunter, Harper, decides to volunteer for a medical trail that has to do with birthmarks- and what do you know- her unusual crescent shaped birthmark was exactly what the creepy doctor examining her was looking for. Next thing she knows Harper is slated to be the new consort to an alien prince all due to some prophecy.

The bad spoilers:

The love interest. Hated him. He was an idiot.
So at one point in the story Harper escapes and ends up with the armadillo people-she safe AND has a way out. In comes horny d- bag. Why would he take her back to the hold?

I get the collar idea, but she was safe, and all the other creeps and killers thought she was dead-Yay! No one was trying to rape and kill her! So why bring her back and let them know she was still alive? Just so he could fuck her?

description

I get the alpha bad boy/ dubious consent concept but this was straight up rape. She said no. Even if her body responded there was no consent or understanding between them- but Nameless just had to claim her so the other killers wouldn't challenge him? Wouldn't they try to take her regardless- they tried later even though he forced himself on her. Then the smug asshole had the audacity to laugh in her face afterwards and collar her.

"Nameless couldn't help but smile as he held Harper against his chest. He wasn't entirely proud of himself, he'd basically forced Harper."

Basically? No dude ya did.

Afterwards Harper is fine with it because she needs his protection- but she only needed his protection because he dragged her back into danger.

description

More crap:
*you saved or helped me but it was dangerous so I must punish you now female
*I own you-mine mine mine
*do what I say because you have no choice- but, love you!
*fate/ connection/ insta love
*you treat me like a pet and do things I don't like- but ur hot- so its cool in the end

whatever- after that one scene I almost DNF'ed but finished anyway

I LOVED this book. There was intrigue and action all throughout. The hero and heroine were both badasses. I just discovered Stephanie West. I am planning to read all her books. This just had it all
