So this book wasn't awful - it made me feel nostalgic for my Twilight obsessed days. Luckily, I have moved on from Twilight but I will always love Vampire fantasy. Blame the fact seven year old me fell head over heels for Angel. So, I laughed, cringed and smiled a lot at the memory of 17 year old me obsessing over different scenes in the bool (and yes, some of the laughing was at how ridiculous some scenes are with the genders reversed, which in turn made me laugh at the original scene). However, there was a lot not good about this book. I respect Stephenie Meyer for her attempt to prove Twilight isn't too influenced by gender stereotypes, but she actually ended up re-enforcing her own obvious stereotypes. Attempt to prove equality seemed clunky and awkward, and she didn't really seem to get the male teen crushing on a immortal, gorgeous girl right. At least, she didn't get it right considering 95% of the readers of this book are going to be female. For example, Beau's opinion of a 'perfect girl' is not often mentioned, but the emphasis on her 'thinness' and 'visible ribs' (THROUGH CLOTHES?!) making her perfect is not ideal. Add to the fact that the language Beau uses (in his head) to describe what he thinks and how he talks, is so overwhelmingly stereotypically male, and it makes for awkward reading.

That being said, I enjoyed the novelty of it, and the rush of nostalgia. I wouldn't read it again, but I don't want to set fire to my eyes.

I had HUGE expectations of how awesome this book was gonna be. I will say that the beginning of this book was AMAZING. I understood Beau's thoughts a little better than Bella's and even enjoyed him more than her. I loved to read about the twists Stephenie used to remind me of the good days. This is the only reason why this book has two stars instead of one.

THE ENDING
This was the most controversial thing for me that made me hate the book. At the end Stephenie lets readers know that she was "experimenting" with what would happen if Bella/Beau turned into a vampire. I was expecting a gender-bent twilight. That's all I wanted. I didn't care about other options Bella would have had because I loved the ending of twilight.
I also didn't enjoy how every book in the series (EXCEPT MY FAVORITE ECLIPSE) was squished into a couple paragraphs--the volturi, the Denali coven-- and there was NO WEDDING!! But we did get a very depressing FUNERAL AND WOLF MEETING.
If anyone was team Jacob (if you're even still doing that) your dreams would be crushed. He (she?) was barely in the book.
I was really disappointed with this book. I did appreciate the feelings that were reignited but it's gonna be a while before I pick up anything else stephenie Meyer for a while...

"Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined" tells the story of "Twilight" except Meyer switched everyone's gender. So now Bella is Beau, Edward is Edythe, etc. Meyer said that she wanted to write the story this way to debunk all of the sexism accusations that her story received. Unfortunately, for me at least, I felt like it highlighted the differences more than removed them.

I found this book very hard to get into in the beginning. Meyer used almost all of the same dialogue in the beginning and it did not play out well from a boy's perspective. I kept thinking, "Beau sounds like a girl." Which didn't dispel any of the gender stereotypes Meyer was trying to overcome. I finally started to see Beau as a real character but it took well over halfway through the book to get to that point. I really didn't think that they story worked well. The one thing that saved the book for me and the only part that I really loved was
Spoiler the ending. I loved that Meyer changed the ending and let us see what things might have been like had Edward not been able suck the venom out of Bella.
That is what raised my rating from a 2 to a 3. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this book to most people. Even if you loved Twilight, you might hate this book--as many other reviewers appear to. However, if you loved Twilight and are just curious and up for a weird/unique book you *might* want to give this a try.

DEAR STEPHENIE MEYER,

First off all, I would like to say...

THIS IS BULLSHIT. Why did you have to do this?

I loved Twilight. Despite of how badly it was written. Despite of how many issues I had with the book. I loved fucking Twilight as it is. I was satisfied with the ending. I was satisfied with those books. I DO NOT NEED A GENDER SWAP TWILIGHT BOOK! No. I do not need this. Nobody needs this! I don't get what the purpose is. What are you trying to prove? I know you already said why you wrote it on the interviews, but it still doesn't make sense to me. It doesn't.

I am happy that this is Twilight's 10th year, but this... is not the right way of celebrating its 10th year. I am so sorry, but I don't feel this was necessary. I really do not.

If you finished Midnight Sun and published it, I would have immediately went to the bookstore to buy it when it comes out. But this... I really don't get it at all.

If you finished the Host series, I would have been very happy. Very very happy. So why? Why do this? :(

Gaaaaahhh!!!

Knowing me and my curiosity, no matter how much I hate that you did this, I probably would still read this. Yes. I would.

But please... Stephenie. Stop doing more Twilight stuff.

Love,
Aria

I loved all the Twilight books! However this one with the guy being human and the girl being a vampire was kind of weird. Everyone was different and it was hard to remember who was who. The ending was the only thing that changed and it was mediocre. I still loved the story.
