⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 stars for The Night Olivia Fell by Christina McDonald!!

I would say this is more of a mystery. It’s a single working Mother trying to put the pieces together to find out what exactly happened to her daughter, Olivia. It’s a fast paced discovery into the past and present over a course of a few months leading up to the shocking discovery of Olivia being in a coma.

⭐️I think what sets a good book apart from a great book, is when I can identify with a character and see how realistic it could actually be. As a Mom, I put myself in Abi Knight’s shoes and I would be trying just as hard to solve this mystery. Another great book for 2019!! Thank you #netgalley @gallerybooks and the #netreduction group! .

This is a YA book with a fake ID sneaking into a local bar. Predictable with an entire flock of red herrings.

I was originally excited to read this, but by the third chapter, my excitement had completely dissipated. It felt like it was awkwardly straddling young adult, poorly written mystery, and romance novel. However, it didn't do any of those genres justice. Some of the imagery was just sad. There seemed to be a lot of comparing eyes to washed stones, which sounds cheesy.

I've been a long-time fan of psychological thrillers, and my favorite part of the genre is trying to figure things out and getting to the point of the book where the plot twist happens and bits of the story start to fall into place. Unfortunately, this book just fell flat for me. I had the "plot twist" figured out fairly early on, and the entire story was so predictable.

Also, the book flashed between Abi, the mother's point of view in the present, and Olivia, the daughter's point of view in the past. I would have expected the tone to sound different for two different characters. But, the voice, the expressions, the tone, everything sounded exactly the same. Overall, I finished the book quickly just to get it over with, and wasn't impressed. Solid two stars.

I really liked this book. It is told both from Olivia's perspective and Abby her mother's. The story from Abby follows the aftermath of Olivia's fall and Olivia's story covers the run up to her fall. Gripping and heartbreaking.

This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster!!! It sucked me and grabbed at my heart!! Abi is a single mother who is raising her daughter Olivia whose sixteen on her own and always puts her first. She has spent her life protecting Olivia. One night she isn’t there to protect her and she gets a phone call Olivia has fallen from a bridge and she’s now on life support pregnant and has bruises. Abi isn’t agreeing with the police that it was an “accident” why aren’t the police investigating and she’s on a mission to know what has happened to her daughter and what are the police hiding. The story blends together beautifully between Olivia’s point of view from the last leading up to the accident and Abi’s point of view of what’s happening now with Olivia in the hospital and her investigation into her daughter life and secrets. I kept thinking I knew who was behind everything but I was wrong! It defiantly pulled at my heart and makes me want to keep my own child close! I want to thank the author and publisher for allowing me to read this wonderful book!!

3.5

I could not out it down!!!!!

Ultimately, The Night Olivia Fell had everything that I look for in a book: it was emotional, suspenseful, difficult to put down, it had a small amount of romance but nothing that over powered the story line as a whole, and it had secondary characters that hit the mark every time they were present. Wam, bam, thank ya ma'am!

From what I have researched, this is the author's debut book and with me saying that, I have to in turn say this: I read this in one sitting. Nonstop. I loved this story, I loved that topic that the author tackled, and I am just in awe as I sit here and type up this review of how delicately she handled it all. For a debut novel, it knocked the socks off of almost everything that I have read this year.

There was so much that I wanted to discuss and talk about in my review and I was ready to get it all out but by the time I typed it all up the first time, I realized that so much of it would be given away if I did that. So I erased it all and instead I wanted to talk about the main thing that I LOVED about this book and that was how the author evoked authentic and raw feelings from me. It's almost difficult for me to explain, maybe it was my mood, maybe it was Olivia or even Abi or the story-line, but this book hit me in a soft spot in my heart that I had long forgotten about and for that, I am always grateful.

The characters, WOW! They were amazing. And not one of them was as good as what they were portrayed as and as the story goes on you can see them crack more and more. They were all mixed with mysteries and they kept me guessing the entire time. By the time it was all said and done, I was suspicious of every one at least three different times. The author did a fantastic job at pulling my feelings and accusations in all different types of directions.

The plot holes were all filled. Just when I was making mental note of something that needed to be touched on, bam, it was covered. And when I say that, I mean it. That is a huge pet-peeve for me when I am reading a story. But with this book, the story-line stayed open so long that you were able to cast all sorts of allegations but then when you got to the next chapter, you would have more and the previous ones would all be gone.

I really feel like The Night Olivia Fell is so much more than the typical suspense story that we keep seeing promoted day after day. It does include the typical "cliches" such as secrets, lies, nothing appearing as it seems, and even conflicts and similarities between characters that you never would have expected, but the relatable characters and the raw emotions that this book evoked from me was in a department all in it's own.

I received this book as an ARC from the author, and I’m so happy I did! I finished it in less than 24 hours; this book just grips you from the start.
A perfect mix of whodunit, what happened, and the complicated role a mother plays in a life, this book was beautifully written without being too sappy. It moved quickly but wasn’t unrealistic nor did I feel like the end was rapidly and sloppily wrapped up like so many thriller and mystery books I’ve read. Thank you again for the chance to read this-or, in my case, devour it-before publishing. I look forward to what this author continues to write.

This book really surprised me. Part mother-daughter drama, part mystery thriller with some YA romance mixed in, it held my attention from beginning until end. And speaking of the end--- my eyes were definitely sweating at the end.

I can usually figure out the twist or bad guy in a mystery/thriller, but there were so many suspects in this book that I couldn't nail down who it was that was responsible for Olivia's fall. But when it became clear who it was, I realized that the clues had been given to us all along.

Interesting, multi-layered characters, an original premise, and some heartfelt moments make this book a fast-paced and fresh read.

Thank you Netgalley and publishers for an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
