Another brilliant book in the Jackaby series from William Ritter. Here we are gifted lovely, broken backstories, the amazing growth of Jenny Cavanaugh, more pieces to the bigger puzzle, and a wondrous journey for Abigail. My only complaint with this book is that Ritter could have easily made it 100 pages longer :)

I recieved an ARC from the publisher (thank you!) as a librarian perk at a conference.
However, getting a book for free doesn't mean I have to love it... But I completely and utterly loved this book anyway! This series continues to be fantastic and I look forward to it continuing.
As you can tell from the book's description, this is a novel where we are going to get some answers! The series plot deepens, we get all kinds of emotional revelations, and we learn more about our favorite characters to love.
I don't want to risk spoiling anything by even hinting at what happens in the book, so I'll just close by saying that William Ritter is an extraordinary writer and I look so forward to reading more of his work in the future!

The best book yet in the Jackaby series. As the pieces of the plot come together, the puzzle begins to assemble in a way that is unexpected and well done. This installment drew together the characters and plot hints of the first two novels to set the grand stage as the series builds toward its conclusion. The blending of supernatural elements is imaginative and vivid as this volume expands upon the supernatural elements in the first two novels.
RF Jackaby is a supernatural detective who is somewhat lacking in social skills. Abigail Rook is his assistant and the narrator of the series, which takes place in New Fiddleham, a small city in an alternative New England. Ghostly Echoes is the third book in the Jackaby series and did not disappoint. The plot revolves around the story of Jenny Cavanaugh, a close friend of Jackaby and Abigail, who also happens to be dead. Her memories of how she ended up that way are a bit vague at best but she wants to know the truth. Jackaby reluctantly agrees to help her.
I am not going to say any more than that for fear I will spoil something and I REALLY want people to experience the book for themselves. Anyone who read the first two books will enjoy this one as well. If you haven't read the first two, get started right now!

This book is like the average second book in a trilogy. Good, but not as good as the first or last.
I mentioned when I read a certain chapter that the author pushes a certain agenda pretty strongly that I disagree with, but the way it was handled fit with the characters and it (sort of) had purpose to the larger story, so I can appreciate it for what it was. It was still quite overt in its purpose of making a point, but I can't really fault the author for that since he at least did so with thought to the overall story.
While that was part of what made this book less enjoyable than the others, it wasn't the sole reason. I just didn't click overall with this book as well as the previous two. But I have high hopes for the last book! Usually there's just one book in the middle that isn't as satisfying and then the series evens out again, and given the excellence of the first two I expect that to be the case here as well. :)

Finally we know what happened to Jenny! I've been waiting since book one and I was beginning to wonder if her past would ever be revealed. Her backstory was amazing and vivid and I can't wait to read the next book.
What a remarkable comeback from the previous book, Beastly Bones. In this, the third of the Jackaby series, it almost seems apparent that Ritter wanted to end the series, rather than be bogged down in a long drawn out multiple book cookie cutter epic, which is basically what the second book was. We start this book with the understanding that we'll get to the bottom of Jenny's sub-plot. The characters go down a rabbit hole and we find that Jenny's death (not a spoiler) was part os a much larger plot. That plot fuels the remainder of the series. The story line of the book itself doesn't end (which is part of the reason for the 4 star rating), but we do get a satisfying conclusion to what happened to Jenny and her Beau. There is a certain amount of predictability throughout the book, which is another nod to the four star, but this being a teen series I give that a little bit of a slide. The writing is sound, the narrative is a tad bit loose, but the pacing is good which makes up for that. Just an overall wonderful addition to the series, and if feels as though we're headed to a satisfying close to the series as a whole.
One last note. The cover art for these books is spectacular. Whomever worked on this deserves all the kudos in the world, and I hope they do many more books, because they're brilliant.

I'm rating this one a bit higher because there are some really wonderful social justice moments here. Jackaby was way ahead of his time. Hats off to you Ms Lee.
Overall: 3/5

Review: I think this one is my favorite in the entire series thus far. I feel that we actually got into the main plot at the end which did feel a bit rushed and I do think that there was a bit of info-dumping for a 3rd book.
