Juniper Unraveling is an epic dark dystopian romance with sprinkles of light that is not for the faint of heart but I truly believe should be experienced by everyone.
The journey of these characters was painful to read at times but there were beautifully broken moments between them that warmed my heart. I loved them both.
I also loved how the author crafted this story, I thought it was masterfully done. I hope she writes more stories in this world.
I highly recommend this book to those who love heart-felt stories.

Juniper Unraveling is set in a dystopian world where people have to survive among Ragers (zombie like creatures) and as the story begins we meet Dani and Wren, two girls, two different POVs. I'm not going to lie, I was a bit confused at the beginning, not understanding the double POV thing and how these girls were supposed to be connected but I let myself get swept away into the story and it was so worth it.
I do not want to give anything away, this book is too complex for me to get into details about the story so I won't (hence the vague reviews I read in the beginning) but give it a chance, I promise you won't be disappointed. Keri wrote something different from what she's used to write, she took a chance on a completely new genre for her and it worked. She's brilliant.
Do not go into this book thinking this is YA or a light NA because it is not. If you don't know Keri dearest, she likes to toy with her readers and this book is definitely for a mature audience. I cannot say it enough, this book is not YA and certainly not for the faint of heart.
The first part of the book had me hooked, it was a little slow but necessary for the story. The second part, now, is where things got even better. I was legit shaking from anticipation and excitation. I thought I had the twist of the story figure out at some point but when it turned out I was wrong, I was shook! Honestly was not expecting that at all, it put the entire book in perspective and made it a thousand times better.
Juniper Unraveling is a unique, complex, amazing story that needs to be savored. I loved it, I fell in love with the characters and the world Keri created. The romance was perfect, just the right amount of angst. I am beyond excited to read the second book in this series because I cannot believe Keri won't write another one.
This is the first post apocalyptic romance I’ve read. Aside from divergent, hunger games etc. and I was really excited for a dark more adult version. This starts out from two female PoV Dani and Wren. We get to experience Dani being taken and brought to this facility that does experiments and Wren a girl on the other side of the wall who finds a lost boy and helps him. Her and the boy get close and soon they’re everything to each other. As the pieces start to click in place how these characters are all connected I was mind blown. Just when I thought I figured it out Keri Lake threw me through a loop. Then we’re thrown 8 years later when Wren and our boy Six are finally reunited.
“But I already lost you once, and come war, or the fires of hell, I’m not losing you twice.”
The first part isn’t big on romance but sets the stage for the plot. The plot was so interesting I had to keep reading so I could figure it all out. My heart bleeds for all that they’ve been through and how they’ve survive. They’re love was strong even knowing things could end the next second in such an unknown world. The second part seemed to fly by after their reunion and I almost wish we got to see them be together longer and to have a little bit more of them. But this is definitely a fast paced, dark read. But so interesting. The spice was more in the second part but just as good.
“To the rest of the world, you were just a girl. A lonely girl from the other side of that wall. But to me, you’ve always been more than that. The air when I couldn’t breathe. My voice when I couldn’t speak. When I couldn’t feel anything anymore, I felt you. Goddamn, Wren, you were my heart, pumping life into a body that was mostly dead. You were everything to me. You are everything.”
I think I am going to need a therapy.

"Two damaged souls trying to figure each other out."
I absolutely LOVED Juniper Unraveling. Dystopian/Post-apocalyptic romances are my guilty pleasures, and I am always on the hunt for more books in this genre. When I read the blurb and early reviews of this book, I just knew I had to get my hands on it. This is the first book I read by Keri Lake, also this was her first book in this genre, so I didn't know what to expect. Keri did NOT disappoint! She grabbed my attention from the start and didn't let go of it until the end. This book was long and there was no dull moment at all. It was action-packed, emotional, dark & twisted, romantic, heartbreaking but also hopeful and uplifting.
"No one else has ever touched my soul this way, stolen a piece of me."
So much bad things happen in the first half of this book, it just broke my heart and had me in tears. I was fully connected to the main characters Six and Wren. Keri Lake really knows how to put the reader in suspense to find out what will happen next. The story was unpredictable and I loved it. Everything just fit perfectly together, and it was written beautifully. I couldn't get enough of the story and characters. I didn't want the story to end and I did my best to read as slowly as possible. There are multiple groups that are the villains in this book, and the group people you think that should protect you are the worst.
"We're the perfect, twisted match, destined for pain like a sad tragedy."
I love this book, however the last quarter of it was rushed in my opinion. There are some things that ended too quickly and has left me with unanswered questions. So I really hope there will be a sequel or a book set in this world that focuses on other characters. Because there are just so many directions the author can go with this unique world. The writing was really good, and she did an incredible job in making me feel connected to the story and characters. I was living in this book and feeling everything Six and Wren were feeling. I can't wait to check out Keri's other books.
Now that we got that out of the way... I know, this is a dark one, but damn Keri. You do me no wrong, ever.

I have been reading carbon copies of the same romances over and over again this entire week. Same characters, zero dimension, terrible plots in different packages and covers. I am so so tired of reading unoriginal stories, without complex layers or characters worth caring about.
Don't get wrong, I know a romance as dark as this is not for everyone. I also go through stages where all I want is a fluffy, nonsense romance and there is nothing wrong with that. Juniper is not it though. Just make sure you are in the right state of mind to read Juniper and you should be good.
These are my roots. I grew up playing Resident Evil and I've always felt such a deep connection to those narratives. Not the stupid silly movies they made but the games. The games have some of the most fantastic storytelling you will ever experience and this book met every expectation I had for a zombie apocalypse romance.
Wren is a 19 year old girl who lives on the right side of the wall, where uninfected humans are trying to survive, thrive and rebuild. While on the left side of the wall, the ragers - infected zombies - still roam around somewhere nearby Las Vegas.
She lives with a doctor, who works on the other side of the wall, in a lab called Calico. Where they run experiments on infected humans in the hopes they will find a cure, but the real story behind the lab is a lot darker than you think.
The mystery and the thriller aspects of this book were mind-blowing. A real page-turner. Absolutely breathtaking, you can easily read this in ONE sitting. So many unexpected twists and turns.
One day, Wren notices a breach in the wall. She is curious, adventurous and she really believes real life happens outside of her safe bubble. Until she meets a boy around the same age as her. She spots him through a small gap in the wall, the mute boy on the other side, with numbers tattooed on his neck and she starts calling him Six.
The most brilliant, riveting, unlikely and intense love story.
Wren will now do anything she can to save him from the people who are hunting him down.
Six was clearly inspired by 11 in stranger things, but the world building in this is so unique and heartbreaking that you don't make that connection until the book is over. The Juniper Unraveling world is way more brutal than anything you have ever seen on Stranger Things.
This book will leave you on the edge of your fucking seat. It will make your heart race, swoon and sob.
You won't be able to put this down.
This has possibly a 3/5 spice scale, the sex scenes are intense but soft-spoken and romantic. This is everything I was looking for. Possibly a book I will recommend to a lot of people for years to come.
This one? This one is special.
