Tess is an exceptional character. She’s analytic, intelligent, and so insanely persistent. She stops at nothing to find the truth and protect those around her. Those who are deserving, at least. Above all else, she has her heart set on doing the right thing. She is good as she is kind, right down to her core. That being said.. I sure as shit wouldn’t want to go up against her.
The story itself was just.. Next level. Outstanding beyond words. Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a fucking artist.

i really loved the first book last year, and this one was ok but not quite as good. i loved the beginning a lot, but by the end it became a little gimmicky. it was a little less political thriller and a little more vigilante. idk it felt like the climax didn't really match with the tone of the rest of the series, and it kind of missed its mark for me. it was still an exciting and fun ride though. it's a really unique series if you're interested, kinda like scandal but YA, with intelligent characters and a intense plot. also i love tess and ivy a lot, my dysfunctional little family.

3.5 stars.

Barnes has been able to create a YA series that hasn't really been touched on previously.

The Long Game is full of twists and turns and is quite the read.

Spoiler What is very interesting about this books is the good guys don't win. Not really. They had to buy their way out. There wasn't the heroes sweep in and save the day. No, they negotiated with a terrorist.

Although, I am disappointed there was less Asher and Bodie in this story. And still no Ivy x Bodie love. Sigh.

The story is so open to a third book. However, that being said
Spoiler I kind of like that the main instigator is still in play. It's difficult to tie such a series up in a neat little bow so the open end I think suits.

Look is this definitely a rip off of Scandal and totally absurd in the same over-the-top manner as Scandal? Yes. But oh man, does Jennifer Lynn Barnes write a snappy story. I devoured this in a single sitting.

We return the rarefied world DC movers and shakers and their children. Devilish plots about the presidency and terrorism abound, as do high school level dastardly plot such as who will be student class president and sharing photos of girls without their consent.

Super fun, super fast.

So, I really need to start writing reviews immediately after I finish the book, because I keep forgetting my thoughts. I read this book right before Thanksgiving and I work retail... so to say I’ve had a lot going on, is an understatement. So here are the thoughts that I have when remembering back to this book.

I absolutely adored Asher in this book. He was so much funnier and I feel I was able to really understand him more as a character than in the previous book.

This sequel was what I was hoping that the first book would’ve been. In this book, Tessa is more established in being a “fixer.” In the first book I was hoping she would’ve embraced the talent and had a lot of confidence rather than being timid.

Ok, now time for spoilers.

Spoiler This book was a lot better than the first! There was a lot more personal drama, which I prefer, rather than political strategy. I totally thought that Tessa’s dad would make a big appearance though, as a twist. I was thinking that it was going to be him I’m charge of the terrorits.
And OMG I knew I didn’t like Henry. 😒
I’m just so confused by that ending, is there supposed to be a third book??

She did not just end like that. I can deal with the body count. I'm OK with all the plot twists and revelations. I am not OK with the sudden ending. I am not OK with waiting another year.

Injustice. Social media. Terrorists. Murders. Hostages. Conspiracy. Class officer elections. Betrayal. It's just another week at Hardwicke Academy for Tess Kendrick Keyes, daughter of one of DC's most powerful "fixers" (and granddaughter of another), and her friends Vivvie, Henry, and Asher. The group is still reeling from the high-profile deaths of Vivvie's father and Henry's grandfather, but it only gets stickier - and bloodier.

This book. I couldn't put it down. It's as much a mystery/thriller as John Grisham or Michael Crichton, but it targets a teen audience. Tess and Co. are strong but vulnerable, smart and likable. And in their world, everything goes, anything is possible. Fans of Jennifer Lynn Barnes should be lining up NOW for this book, the sequel to The Fixer. Not yet a fan? This series and her series The Naturals are great places to start.
