The concepts in the book are interesting but the pacing felt slow. The concepts could easily get lost in the length. If you're interested in the change triangle, AEDP, or the author, I suggest starting with her website: https://www.hilaryjacobshendel.com/what-is-the-change-triangle-c18dd
I also have concerns about the efficacy of her therapy based on her criticism of CBT and other psychotherapies. She claims that AEDP can solve problems in just a few sessions while psychotherapy can take years, but each case she talks about in her book includes a client that she has seen for at least a year. It feels hypocritical to tear down other modalities (especially when they are evidence based) without a lot of evidence that your modality is better for some reason.
It gets the stars it does because I do believe honoring feelings is important and there seems to be some value in the work she's talking about. There also some good questions throughout the book so it may have value for some.

This is a highly practical psychotherapeutic resource that is helpful to read whether you're a helping professional or not. I'm a big proponent of the AEDP approaches to therapy, and they (and thus this book) will surely guide my work as a therapist AND as a human being for a very long time. Highly recommend!

i found this super helpful, i just wish we had more info on all of the core emotions! Hendel talks about anger in depth but not the others.

Nothing particularly ground-breaking. I feel like the title is misleading.
Some interesting comments on core emotions, and audiobook format perhaps wasn't the best way to consume the information as there are a lot of diagrams you are supposed to refer to throughout. The information might've been easier to digest reading the physical book.
