I started to read the Vampire Diaries because of the television series, I wanted to see where the characters came from etc. Now, one thing for certain is, the television series is a million times better than the books. In the books, Elena is irritatingly perfect to whom no other girl can match up to. Stefan is a push over and has no bite, but at least Damon is how Damon should be.
That said, I have indeed read all eight volumes of this series. I don't really why really, I just wanted to see how it ended. This book had two chapters that kept me wanting to read more and that's it.
The kitsune mythology is interesting.
I believe this is the last volume to be written by LJ Smith, we shall have to wait and see where the new author takes this annoyingly addictive teen lit.

I absolutely love the Vampire Diaries series. They are by far my favorite Vampire type series. I love the unique story lines. This is the first book that I've run upon kitsunes and they absolutely fascinate me. I've heard a lot of reviews on the earlier books of this series about how Elena (the main character) is selfish, bitchy, and unlikeable. Stick with the books and you'll experience her change. The experience she fronts changes her and forces her to grow and improve as a person. I cannot wait to start the next book. Also, I'm niether a Stelena or Delena fan... I love both options.. just like Elena I'm having trouble deciding.
I didn't enjoy this one that much like the past 2 but I love finding out about different characters. I think I will get the next one as I really want to know what happens to Damon (because of the ending) but I will probably get it from the library so I don't have to pay ;). Damon and Elena HAVE to be together!
I feel that this novel is much better than the first two in the return series, and that it is a much easier read and a lot more fun to read. It also doesnt seem as dark as the other two. Trust me, there is still some very creepy, dark, horrific parts and parts that i wouldnt wish on anyone to go through, but it was a little lighter. It wasnt all just gloom and doom and the characters are becoming more and more bad-ass =]
First reaction: DAMON'S DEAD!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Second reaction: No he's not!!!!!!!!!!! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And that works for the whole book.

I have said it before and I will say it again, this series has some great ideas but I personally am just not fond of the authors writing style. You may then ask why I keep reading the books? The answer is that I am interested in the story, I want to know what happens. Damon was odd in this book, he really makes an awful ||human||, he is uncaring, impulsive and reckless, ||even more so than when hes a vamp||. I do like when his caring instincts come out, Stephan is back and functioning and by that I mean being annoying, he keeps insisting he wants bunnies when he has several willing donors who all have a much better chance of making it therough the day if the vamps are at their strongest. I like Ms. Flowers, she is brilliant. Bonnie is enfuriating, why is she written like a five year old, immature is one thing but the way she acts sometimes, especially in this book, just seems rediculous. Elena is bland she talks anout her rings 12 times per chapter. ||I loved the ending but thats because I love Damon so any chance of life he has will make me happy||.
I don't know what to rate this... I was so disappointed at some parts but I loved others. I'm honestly scared to see where this series goes. I don't want the publisher's pressuring the author for a specific coupling.
And the series gets worse and worse and I still have a prequel trilogy and a yet to be released trilogy yuck
