I love the focus on seasons in this book that really showcases the vegetables of each season. come back to this one when you want to remember why vegetables are so amazing!

A fantastic cookbook with beautiful artwork (and some photos). Since joining a community sponsored agriculture farm and getting bags of freshly harvested vegetables, we have been making a lot more recipes and coming to try vegetables we never worked with previously. This book lays out an assortment of common vegetables in line with the season they are often harvested in, gives quick detail of that specific vegetable and how you can prepare it, and then a list of some recipes to try out. I specifically appreciated learning how to prepare some vegetables and also what parts of the plant are edible. Through the seasons thus far, I’ve returned to this cookbook for quick refreshers on the new items each season has brought. I suspect I’ll be returning to this often in years to come.

I want to make everything in this book. But that will take a year and a slightly older kid in the family. Putting it on the cookbook wishlist for 2019.

I love how this book is laid out and the premise of the book (only eat in season). The introduction is great. I tried 4 of the recipes and all were good. One was really great and I will definitely make it again. This cookbook provides ideas for flavor profiles, more so than recipes. But I think that’s intentional as in the intro he discusses to taste taste taste when cooking!

These recipes were overly complicated, featured strange combinations, and just generally felt unnecessarily pretentious. There were a few good ones, but nothing I felt inclined to try out based on the title and description/ingredients. I love cooking with vegetables but this feels too modern and "unique"

Got 30% of the way through and had to return to the library. Excellent book, so many good ideas. Would love to check it out again, especially in springtime with plans to go to a farmer's market.

2 stars is def harsh but it's a cook book, so i dont have any investment in the story. it came down to whether or not i'd make any of these, and i got maybe 2-3 ideas from it- and it's 350 ish pages. idk the cover is so pretty, the pictures are pretty, and the set-up and concept was so interesting and cool maybe he'll get 3 stars

I was very excited to get this one when it was released and have made a few recipes from it since.

Another reviewer has already written how I feel about it (unfortunately)... it's okay. We have a back-to-baseline easy weeknight meal, which is basically jarred spaghetti sauce, sometimes augmented with a couple garlic cloves and 1/2 a pound of meat, spaghetti, and steamed broccoli. I was excited for his recipe of rigatoni with broccoli and sausage, which I was imagining to be an elevated version of our go-to. And it is... kind of. I mean, sure, ricotta is always going to elevate a dish (one of those guaranteed improvements, like frying something or sprinkling some raw sugar on muffins before baking, etc), but honestly, all the recipe taught me was that I could spoon some ricotta on our regular, easier meal and be happier. His meal was good, but I won't make it again - wasn't worth all the extra effort for a slight improvement. I use this as a specific example, but I've made 4-5 other recipes with the exact same response afterwards - this was quite a bit of work and great (+$) ingredients, but it was just okay.

Just, I suppose, disappointed, ultimately. Not what I expected from my original perusal of the book and recipes.

Lots of recipes, love the deep dive into seasonality for each ingredient and the sense of practicality that shines through. The author has a few definite go-to techniques and toppings, so some of the recipes end up re-treading the same ground.
