Not as good as the prequel, but still pretty decent fantasy.
I've tried to give this a chance on three different occasions and I'm still only at 18%. There's another review that goes into more depth, but this is the gist and I wholeheartedly agree with it: there's nothing overtly terrible about the book, but there's nothing good, either, and so much mildly bad that the whole package is an absolute chore.
I hate leaving books unfinished, but sometimes you just have to.

I found this story among collection of stories "Quest, Eight novels of fantasy..." on smashword and it was free. I enjoyed the story, but I noticed that first part of book is too grim, while second part of book is without serious conflict. It was very captivating and interesting, but it's obvious Myranda has plot armor and I don't mind characters having plot armor (since they are needed in the story), but Myranda was in dangerous situation way too many times and it get old very quickly. Each of her training bring something new, but book dwells on training bit too much. I will recommend it to people who like Harry Potter, but I find it lacks action and drama, while it has numerous fake and overdone dangerous situations.
It was a good book but I did not enjoyed it that much... Don't know if I am going to read the next in the series...
Decent book, especially for a free read. A little predictable, a little "magical girl" (not in the anime sense).
I'm glad this wasn't my first book by Jospeh Lallo because if it was, it may well have been my last, and then I would have missed out on the fun "Big Sigma" novels.
This appears to be an early work for the author, and it shows. Structurally it's weak, without much impetus to the plot. Plenty happens, but it tends to happen around or to the protagonist, whose only act of agency comes right at the end of the book, and directly leads to the cheap cliffhanger ending.
The text is clear and readable, but not compelling: Lallo has definitely done better work since.

Beautiful epic fantasy. The characters and works building were phenomenal! Each book got better than the last. Once of my favorite series of all time.
Decent read but nothing too noteworthy. It was very long... uncessarily long in my opinion. However, it was amusing enough to keep me reading, though I could not bring myself to read it faithfully. I finished several other books before finally finishing this one. The main character is alright, though it kind of bugged me that she remained basically unchanged by her experiences and oblivious to the fact that she learned and performed amazing feats of magic at record breaking speeds. It's like the other characters were saying "Wow! I can't believe you did that!" and she'd respond with an attitude of "yes, yes, now about that war..."
