Give Me a Reason

“‘Give Me a Reason’ is a sexy, stand-alone contemporary romance that’ll make you feel all the feels.”

Yes. It did. For the first time in over two years, I’ve cried while reading a book. I laughed. I swooned, raged, and FELT.

I can agree that sometimes nowadays, spicy romance books don’t dive into the deeper feelings besides lust and love that the two main characters have. But THIS BOOK dives so far, and it’s made me come to appreciate slow (ish) burns as a trope.

This is a 10/10 book.

Read it.

Edit: another thing I really enjoyed, which apparently a lot of people didn’t enjoy about the book, was the writing style.

Yeah, the sentences are incomplete, but they sound like REAL people talking (most of the time) and not like you’re reading two robots. And it’s got a poetic flow, which as a writer myself, I love to use in my own works. It’s creative, original, and enjoyable, if you’re able to hear the character’s voices. It looks aesthetically pleasing like a free form poem does and it makes those feels/emotions really stand out.

And just because it’s not formatted in the “normal”, (and quite frankly, the repetitive boring way,) doesn’t mean it isn’t a good writing style. It shouldn’t be ridiculed for doing something different that WORKS.

I picked this up without reading the blurb because I love the narrator, but between the FMC calling her pastor father “daddy” and her being a Christian Sunday school teacher, I simply could not. Ew, David.

Physical/audiobook (Audible) - twisted romance between a club owner and former VP of an evil MC and an elementary & Sunday school teacher who’s also the preachers daughter. After an unfortunate theft by her sister which puts their businesses and properties in danger of foreclosure, Eden forces a job at the local night hot club drawing the attention and attraction from the club owner which pulls her into his dark dramatic world. As their relationship develops Eden also finds out unexpected truths through her sisters do you remember letters. Such a crazy messed up story with deep character building.

Y’all 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 book. This 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒌. It had me all up in my feels! I’m talking I started it and finished it in less than a 24 hour period. I 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 it! I completely fell in love with Trent. I felt every single one of this sizzling  soul’s broken emotions as if they were mine. And his son Gabe…..oh how I loved that little boy!

Let’s not forget Eden…..the sizzling, off the charts, out of this world sparks that flew between Trent & Eden….holy moly! I felt like I would swoon every time they were together! I absolutely loved it!

Connor Crais & Desiree Ketchum absolutely performed with perfection. This narrating duo brought all the angst, all the push and pull and made the story come to life. I loved every second of their narrations!

AL Jackson has once again created an unforgettable, absolutely addicting, blissfully HOT, 5 trillion star worthy book. Don't miss it!

Eden Murphy is a down on her luck teacher and widow who needs extra cash. She’s the daughter of a preacher, who teaches Sunday school. She’s sweet and innocent, despite having been married before, but she’s a girl willing to do whatever she has to do to help those she loves. She loves her dad and she absolutely adores Gage, the sweetest boy in her Kindergarten class. Trent Lawson is a grumpy, single dad hiding from a dangerous past. His primary focus has, and will be, his son Gage’s safety. But when Eden comes looking for a job at his bar to make extra cash, her goodness and sweetness are like chum in the water and he just can’t leave her alone. Every time he tries to stay away from her, it seems like fate keeps throwing them in each other’s paths over and over again. He’s super possessive and protective of her right from the start and he’s going to try everything to protect her - even from himself and the pitch black from his past that’s trying to reclaim him.

Give Me A Reason is the first book I’ve read by AL Jackson and I’m completely hooked. I really enjoyed her distinctive writing style that truly elicits emotional responses as you read it, almost like a prompt. And oh, my heart, what an angsty, emotional journey it was! The story is extremely well written and has phenomenal character development. You honestly care about these characters, what happens to them, and those they care about. The story was a journey with tons of emotional growth for both Trent and Eden. It was wonderful to see Trent come to accept that he was worthy of love and goodness, despite the wrongs of his past and how Eden accepts him for how he is, and not for how he appears to be. All the feels! The story was is far more complex than it first appears to be and it's wonderful to see it all fall into place with a twist I didn’t see coming. I can’t wait for the other books in this series about Trent’s brothers and hopefully Eden’s friend Tessa? I guess we’ll see!

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: opposites attract/single dad
Angst:

Super boring and the romance timeline makes no sense.

I was able to get this book with the rest in the series as an audiobook with one credit so I jumped in and started listening without really knowing what this book/series was about.  I don't usually read MC books and didn't realize this one is based on a former MC member.  I liked the book though.

Eden needs to earn some more money to help her father and his business out so she applies for a waitressing job.  The owner, Trent Lawson, is far from willing to hire her.  She's so innocent looking and shouldn't be close to place where he frequents/owns.  Eden fights for the job after he turns her down and he finally agrees to hire her.  Trent had no idea that he'd find out the next day that Eden is also a teacher at the local school where his son just started.

Ok, so the twist with this book… I did NOT see it coming.  There were a few twists that I was like "say what????" as they transpired.  It really hooked me through until the end.  I'm excited for the rest of the series.
