An extremely useful book. Some of the information seems extraneous, and there seems to be a lot of redundancy. But overall it’s a well-ordered book, so for example if you have a question about when to do a particular task, you can easily find it.
I haven’t yet implemented all the advice related to my chronotype (I’m a wolf—nocturnal, which will surprise no one who knows me), but I did make one change, which has helped. A counselor had advised me to work all night if that’s what I felt like doing. Well, that’s certainly possible, and I kept my Facebook followers entertained for a while by posting what I was doing at 3 am. But this put me out of sync with friends, colleagues, and clients. From Breus I learned that this phenomenon is called “social jet lag.” So now I’m working on implementing his advice on sleeping and waking so I can get re-synced with most of the people I associate with.
The most helpful advice so far: Wolves often have sleep inertia—difficulty waking from deep sleep. Breus recommends two alarms—one to get you ready to wake, and then another twenty minutes later to actually wake you. I’ve had mixed results so far, but we’ll see if it gets better with repetition.

I listened to the audio book after hearing the author, Michael Breus, interviewed on a friend's podcast. It was a very interesting read and I've already put some of author's recommendations into practice with positive results. I've done some in-depth study of some of the subjects that are covered in this book and found it interesting to hear another perspective.
While I think the book is totally worth a read or listen, I do have a couple of criticisms.
I find that the author is a bit too quick to guarantee results in some cases — along the lines of do this for a week an you'll feel much better. While this may be true for most people, I imagine there are edge cases where the outcome might not be quite so positive (e.g. for people suffering from illnesses).
I like that the book quotes studies from all over the world. It helps reinforce that much of what he shares is genetic rather than cultural. Though, some of the studies he mentioned involve a small group of participants and I question the universality of their findings.
Overall, I'm grateful for what I learned in this book and think that this is a subject that deserves plenty of attention. The impact of the relatively simple lifestyles changes has the potential to be transformational.

Not a super thrilling read, but I took extensive notes about what time to do everything. Useful.
3.9/5
if I could rate just the information in this book, I would definitely say five out of five, but the way that it was presented just felt a tad overwhelming.
I think the Chronotypes information is so interesting and the power of sleep is awesome! however, the summations at times were just so much info. Overall though i liked this book it just was hard to trudge through at times

It was a bit challenging to get past the foreword given the total lack of credibility of the person who wrote it. This was a good book to skim because each chapter is repetitive in its structure. Some interesting tips, but it didn’t really address what to do if you meet dolphin criteria and also strongly identify with one of the other chronotypes.
Interesting read. Quite a few times didn't sound too practical for my life, but enjoyed learning about how being a lion is different from the other chronotypes.
This book definitely was helpful in learning more about my sleep profile and learning better strategies to be more successful at night. I have a chronic mental illness that affects my sleep a lot. The less sleep you get and the less patterned your sleep is the worst mental illness symptoms will get.
This book also has a lot of self-help live changing wisdom that I would caution you to be skeptical about. For the chronotypes that are dolphins (me) and wolves, Breus doesn't really offer solutions other than rigid schedules designed to conform to the 9 to 5 lifestyle. I don't think these are the only approaches. This book isn't the end of developing a passion for better sleep but it is a great jumping-off point.

It's a good book and super informative but man it gets boring!! Way too much info. I think if he could shorten some of it it would be way more entertaining.

I enjoyed learning the art of timing and the effect your sleep has on your day to day actions. Very informative with a lot of helpful tips.
So much of this is simply nonsense. I'll say there's some truth in the book, some of it is simply commonsense and the studies are interesting, albeit there's a lot of mouse studies, which doesn't always translate over to humans... but again, there's a whole lotta nonsense...
But, you're not going to find me taking health advice (or much other advice) from a doctor who thinks the flu shot is a good idea, encourages carb-loading everyday (especially if you want to fight with dolphin - make sure they have a carb-heavy dinner so you can fight at 7pm with them
