What a sweet and funny book. It really makes you think, don't judge a book by its cover when it comes to people.

If you want some good laughs and a good story, pick this book up ❤

The Strike Out
By: Meghan Quinn
Narrated by: Connor Crais, Mackenzie Cartwright

Rather than the Strike Out, this should be titled the Home Run! Holt and Harmony's story is sweet and delicious! Who says you can't fall in love with your waitress? Holt spots Harmony when she takes the teams order, and when she doesn't give them the time of day, he is intrigued. Harmony has no interest in the elitist athletes, and his attention in unwanted. Until it's not! Together, this slow burning romance takes us through their lives. The passion, the decisions, the love, the secrets, the heartbreak all play into our hearts. Holt is swoony and wonderful, though he can be a bit controlling. Harmony is a little stubborn for me, overly cautious, but that is what makes her interesting. It's a fabulous look at college life, friends and the future. Another fantastic addition to the Brentwood Brothers.

Connor Crais fits Holt so perfectly, it's like Quinn had him in minds as she wrote him. His voice holds all the love and warmth, and his protective worrying is spot on. Mackenzie Cartwright is a favorite of mine, and she grabs hold of Harmony and makes her real. Her voice has that hesitancy under the love she feels, and it creates that true to self person Harmony is. These two always complement each other and it was a great listen.

She was supposed to be the mature one but by the end of the book, she had annoyed me so damn much.
In fact, if it was not for the hospital thing, this book would have easily been a 2.5 or 2.75 star rating!

4.5 stars
Holt was definitely a cocky guy but you got used to it over time. Harmony didn’t really want the relationship because she wanted to stay focused on graduating. Story was good in my opinion.

🌶 - 4

"You see what you want to see on the outside, but you won’t know the truth until you actually dig deeper. Don’t judge me, Harmony, and actually try to get to know me.”

Each installment of the Brentwood Boys series seems to hit and miss for me, averaging out it's rating.

Holt and Harmony are adorable, but The Strike Out could have used an infusion of more time spent with Priya (love her!) and Holt's baseball teammates (featured in previous stories; yes it's a bit confusing) to break up the high level of saccharine romance. Holt and Harmony are so in love (they never seem to be not together and the plot is heavy on physical intimacy), Holt's parents are his #relationshipgoals perfect love match, Harmony's parents are so in love ─ it just becomes too much; please turn down the Hallmark.

The bones of the story are good and thankfully it didn't follow THE SAME plot line of multiple others
Spoilerif another couple was going to be separated for five+ years I couldn't read another!
, but there were some bizarre character shifts, sharp left-turns in the plot with instances where I thought content was missing, manufactured drama, and the conflict hit in the wrong places.

A sweet bonus epilogue leaves you with a dopey happy feeling, and even though the story wasn't perfect for me, it was still an satisfactory diversion.

Note: I don't know why these aren't grouped as a series under Brentwood Boys on Goodreads but if you want to check out the rest of the series in order: [b:The Locker Room|44010609|The Locker Room|Meghan Quinn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1559827238l/44010609._SY75_.jpg|68423566], [b:The Dugout|52191620|The Dugout|Meghan Quinn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1567592318l/52191620._SX50_SY75_.jpg|73003395], [b:The Lineup|48905394|The Lineup|Meghan Quinn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1574300963l/48905394._SY75_.jpg|73591972], [b:The Trade|52129328|The Trade|Meghan Quinn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1583445503l/52129328._SY75_.jpg|75932427], [b:The Change Up|52992985|The Change Up|Meghan Quinn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1590582804l/52992985._SY75_.jpg|79475159], [b:The Setup|54902597|The Setup|Meghan Quinn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1598476577l/54902597._SY75_.jpg|84974191], and of course the book reviewed here [b:The Strike Out|56251929|The Strike Out|Meghan Quinn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1608728647l/56251929._SY75_.jpg|87628424]. Also, note that this series does not follow a linear timeline but flips back to Brentwood in some, while others follow characters after going pro.

I love that Meghan Quinn has brought fans back to the Brentwood campus where the locker room superstition and all the future baseball greats got their start.

Holt is a bit of a cocky ass to others, but I loved him anyway because he when it counts he truly is humble, kind, and funny as all get out. His pursuit of Harmony is relentless and I cheered on Harmony as she shot down every one of his passes. They give good banter and there’s a nice build up.

Once they get together, their relationship is put on the fast track and some of Harmony’s independence is lost. I prefer a little more time before couples drop the L word, but I appreciated how all-in Holt is. Their chemistry is fantastic and despite some immaturity, they are willing to put work on their relationship.

My biggest beef with the Brentwood series is
Spoiler the torturing of readers by breaking up couples and then dragging out their heartache and reconciliation for a crazy number of years.
Well, it must be Christmas because that doesn’t happen with this book. In fact, Quinn makes a little inside joke about it. I could not have been more relieved.

Be sure to download the bonus epilogue. It’s a real treat that shouldn’t be missed.

Another Home run!

What is there to say? This is another spectacular Meghan Quinn book! And you can absolutely start this as your introduction to the beautiful, incredible, sexy Brentwood Boys, aka The towel brigade!

Harmony wants nothing to do with pig headed jocks with the world handed to them on a silver platter. But Holt isn't easily dismissed. He's persistent without being pushy, a massive flirt without being a creep. It's a fine line to walk, and he walks it well!

I completely fell for Holt, his confidence and wit. And Harmony is so relatable, her drive and determination is inspiring. They are such a perfect couple and so dang sexy!

I have really enjoyed the rest of the books in this series, but this one really just didn’t hook me.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy did I not love this. Please do not come for me because I love Meghan Quinn’s writing and her books and will continue to read them. BUT! I truly hate arrogant and crude men and unfortunately Holt was worse than Knox in this regard. I get that he’s a 20 year old hot baseball player but my goodness (how many times does this need to be said) NO MEANS NO. No does not mean stalk her IG to find out where she is and harass her. But it wasn’t all Holt; Harmony made me want to yell many times. I don’t understand. This entire book I mostly had this face
