I was curious to see what Bex’s story would be like and it wasn’t bad. I liked it better than Start a Fire but still ended up giving it three stars. It started off good and left me curious. However, it started to feel really drawn out. It just kept either being too much drama or more grief pounding on.

I liked Bex and felt bad for Asher, but I can’t really tell you if I wanted them to be together. To be honest, I found them to be exhausting towards the end. It’s a bad situation that they were placed in, I get that. However, it was just too much drama. Ex boyfriends, family, mean girls, and etc. Along with that, we had the back and forth between Bex and Asher to deal with. I do feel that towards the end that Asher was being unfair.
Spoiler I get that her brother killed his, but he chose to be with her anyway.
Her wanting to have a relationship with a brother is still her choice and I don’t think it was fair that he asked that of her.

While this had a lot going on, I can say it was still a decent read. The next book is about Gabe and I don’t know I’m ready lol. He’s our flighty funny character, and I’m curious to see how his story turns out.

Love this author's style!

This is the first Julia Wolf book that I read and absolutely fell in love with these broken characters. This is the second book in her Savage Crew series which is exploring the darker side of new adult relationships, but you don't have to read them in order to understand what's going on (I started with this one). In this one we see Bex Lim and Asher Beck struggle to come to terms with a tragic event that inadvertently leads them to each other. The characters are in high school, but are dealing with more adult problems that most.

I couldn't help but fall in love with Bex and the way that she handles herself with her head held high no matter what situation she is put through. Asher and Bex get off to an explosive but rocky start. Asher puts her through hell after deciding to ruin her, but the friends she's surrounded herself with help her to stand tall. The pain and grief these two face is almost insurmountable, with the potential to allow it to tear them apart rather than bring them together. Julia Wolf wrote an amazingly strong female character that was able to recognize toxic behavior and pull herself out of it which is something you don't see enough of in these types of books! It has bullying elements but is definitely more of an enemies to lovers situation.

This book was interesting and emotional on many different levels. Bex comes from a wealthy family, the homelife isn’t bad, it’s just nonexistent and after what happens at the very beginning my heart did hurt for her to some extent. She makes questionable decisions as an act of rebellion, which is what a young girl is to do in high school, but at times I think she handles things immaturely and can come across as pretentious even if she is just trying to blend in the crowd. If making big girl decisions know there is always big girl consequences. She does get bullied at times very cruel by Asher and I felt bad for her when he was so callous, but I found myself more intrigued about Asher’s anger towards her than Bex. Something about the way Asher lashed out towards Bex had me glued in because I just knew behind that anger was something else. I am not saying that him bullying her was the way to go about things because it wasn’t, but I wanted to know more. I got that they connected because of the pain they both endured by violence and tragedy, but why did Asher not just stay away from her? Why torture her endlessly to the point you couldn’t stay away? I did in all honesty feel bad for Bex, but my curiosity of Asher outweighed my connection with her. Asher and Bex mixed like oil and water but there is an attraction there underneath their animosity. Asher has a role he feels the need to play, and high school drama ensues, and he must decide to follow the herd of the crowd or stand up for what he wants in the end. The more reason I saw in Asher’s anger the more I understood why he would cling to Bex and her to him because they were brought together through tragedy and violence forever linking them. While I tried to understand Bex point of view when it came to needing closure over certain events, I still feel like Asher was justified in asking for time, not that his pain was more important or worse, but because as someone hurting, she could have tried to see it more from his point of view. Both hurting and grasping for straws to understand each other’s pain can they help each other or always cause each other pain? While I did enjoy this intense bully read, I ended up feeling more compassionate towards the bully-ier than the heroine because the one thing that Asher asked of her was the one thing she went out and did, so when he says “we’re ashes. That’s all that’s left.” I felt that in my heart for him. I tried to see Bex side of things and did understand some things but just couldn’t fully connect with her and if it wasn’t for Gabe, I probably would have ended up not liking her at all because Gabe in all his craziness was funny and honest to a fault. “We’d taken the pain and anger of loss and grief and melded it into something more, something useful, into understanding, forgiveness, love.”

Bex and Asher are the quintessential opposites attract. However, that is where the cliche ends. These two are connected by a circumstance that is so tragic the hurt bleeds through the pages.

These two have been aware of each other for a long time, but it takes one event to push them together. They have to learn to navigate the now as they are forced to acknowledge the elephant in the town that follows them wherever they go. Together, they find a way to get through the pain and find a built to last love.

Bex and Asher

I loved this as much as the first book. I wanted to hug them both and tell them it gets better and to believe in each other...I also wanted to behead the parents. Julia Wolf gets me right in the feels and I can’t wait for Gabe’s story!

Bex and Asher are so wrong and yet so right for each other. Both come from broken families. Their brothers were addicts and have left a mess for them to process and deal with. This pain can either bring them together or tear them apart. In the beginning I was not a fan of Asher, but as the story developed my heart grew for him as well. I guess that is how teen bully stories work. I will be looking forward to the next story in the series featuring Gabe.

Julia has done it again! I am blown away at the versatility and diversity Julia brings to her books. I could have never imagined the bridge from contemporary rockstar to dark high school romance would be so seamlessly flawless but Julia can do it all, I shouldn’t have waited so long to jump in!

Halfway through book 1 I knew I’d be reading book 2 immediately! I wasn’t prepared to fall in love with Asher but he made it pretty easy. There were more heart twinges and belly flutters in this one. Asher was the perfect amount of intense and soft when it came to Bex.

Asher is an athlete with a dark edge and Bex is the quiet goth girl photographer who seems to keep catching moments she shouldn’t. Whether she thinks it’s a blessing or a curse her impeccably bad timing brought her to her HEA with the unsuspecting vengeful football player.

This one was heavier on the plot and there were a few twisties I wasn’t expecting but thoroughly enjoyed! The little glimpses of Bash and Grace made me so happy, I love getting to see past couples thriving.

Happy Reading ❤️

4⭐️

Asher & Bex.

I really enjoyed this book but miscommunication is hugely prevalent in this story.

One of the reasons as to why I rated it 4⭐️.  Is the lack of understanding Asher gives to Bex’s. While her brother did a horrible thing, Bex should have been able to grieve the loss of her relationship to her brother. While Asher has every right to hate and want to destroy Parker. It shouldn’t be in his control to dictate how Bex sees her brother. To prevent her seeing him and getting closure.
