A wonderful stream of consciousness from Murakami on all things life. Although his running journey is the focus, really it’s life lessons and somewhat spiritual. It’s very abstract but has many excellent anecdotes about the trials and tribulations of living. There is no need to have read Murakami’s actual books to enjoy this.
An interesting sneak peek into the mind of author Haruki Murakami while he either runs or participates in triathlons.
His writing style is very accessible and relatable. There's nothing especially compelling about the 'story', but I think that is the point - Murakami wants the reader to feel like they're having an everyday conversation, rather than some highbrow technical assessment of running, swimming, or cylcing.
A good book for someone looking for a short, relaxing read.

“Most runners run not because they want to live longer, but because they want to live life to the fullest. “
Really enjoyable and quick, easy read. Love running. A little bit pessimistic for me but still had some good reflections on runners and running.

A very easy read and well written. I definitely want to read some of his fiction books....something not about running!

What a gem. This book is about so much more than running. Murakami does an incredible job of demonstrating how we do one thing is oftentimes how or why we do something else. Like him, I am drawn to yoga (he, writing) + running because you truly don’t need anything besides yourself. I also enjoyed his observations on aging + the acceptance that is required to continue to do the thing.
