It sounded really cool but the mystery came too late and the payoff wasn't worth it. Only Ridley's story was interesting but it gets bogged down by every other character.

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I really loved the premise of the book, but there were so many characters POV's, so it was hard to keep them separate. Iris was my favorite, I really enjoyed Iris as a character, seeing her battle with anxiety. Extremely slow start, took me forever to get into the book. I wanted to love it, but I didn't.

Can't handle cliffhangers right now! I need closure!

I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The pacing of this one was so odd. It was rolling, rolling, rolling and then BOOM! Everything went off at once. And then it just...fizzled out? Kind of bizarre. Kind of drabble-like. I assume there will be a second book?

I enjoyed almost all of the characters, and I appreciated the diversity in race, gender identity, and sexuality. It felt a little diverse-just-to-be-diverse at times, and I wished they had integrated the girls' personalities better with the story itself instead of awkwardly developing them at key moments in the plot.

The plot... It was a little hard to get invested in. There was too much mystery and not enough pay-off, so it felt like loose ends were smacking me in the face all over the place. I think this is a great book for the age-group it's designed for, but a little too young for older high-schoolers or other young adults in the older age range.

3.5 stars.

I’m not sure why this was advertised as being YA when the dialogue & overall writing style is very middle grade esque, but once you get used to it it’s not that bad.

as for the plot itself, it’s definitely a slow starter. things didn’t really pick up/get set in motion until about halfway through the book. and even then most of the important plot relevant mystery solving is done off screen & relayed to the reader via info dumps which..is definitely a choice.

despite it’s flaws, this book was still a decently fun read with great queer rep. if you’re someone who enjoys middle grade and/or somewhat corny writing then you’ll probably enjoy this book too.

Gahhhh! No where does this say it's a part of a series! Curse cliffhangers! I am intrigued to see where they go from here and hope for more unity and less internal drama.

It's just okay. Picked it up from the library to go with spooky season and didnt know it was a duology. My libraries don't currently have the second book so I don't know if I'll ever finish it. I think the story is interesting enough, I would like to know what happens next with the covens, and I would like to read the second one eventually. But I didn't like it enough to want to purchase the second one if it is unavailable from my library.
