I really wish Goodreads had Half stars. This should be 3 1/2 but I'm going to bump it up to four. Ms. Callow is a great new voice in legal fiction and I'm looking forward to reading her next book.

I loved the general idea of the soft tissue storyline, something I’ve not come across before. There was just something that stopped me from loving this book. Whether it be the date/time stamps at the top of the chapters, the strange reoccurrence of the sister or just that she’s a seemingly naïve character?

I would love to follow Kate Lange’s adventures but don’t think it’s a series for me...

The first part of this book was entertaining but the coincidences started piling up and also I got more and more tired of the heaving bosoms and electrically charged glances and uncontrollable urges that the characters are plagued with. The solution was obvious very early so there was no sense of discovery or surprise if you've ever read a real mystery or suspense book. I finished it hoping there'd be a twist or payoff of some kind at the end, but no joy. It's safe to skip this one.

I really liked this book. I’ve had a string of ok books lately so this one was just what I needed. I think if you like a good thriller this one will not let you down. Somewhere around 85 to 90% I was think you know I could see this being made into a big screen movie. I could see it played out there.

Normally I can figure out the twists and this one I really wasn’t completely sure. I had different suspicions along the way but I really think this book was good at keeping me guessing.

My only issues with the book which I didn’t dock any in the ratings was one I felt the main character put herself into situations that I thought oh my god why?! And the other which I’ll put in spoiler in case anyone feels this way throughout the book. I don’t want to spoil it. Was one of my expectations based on both my past reading experiences and where I thought the author was leading.
I realize this was a typical thriller and I come from the world of romance but I could definitely see that the author could have easily turned this into a romantic suspense and I did hope for that. Part of that is just because I do like a bit of romance mixed with my suspense but also the author did give the main character 3 potential love interests. I was rooting for a bit of something with the boss so I was sort of disappointed that even at the end there was nothing. I’m hopeful if I read the next one maybe just maybe....lol

Mary DiNunzio is a lawyer who is representing 10-year-old Patrick, a dyslexic boy who is accused of attacking a school aide. But the truth is deeper and darker than just that, and Mary is right in the middle of it all.

I haven't read the other books in this series, so I was worried about picking up this one, but it was just fine. The story was intriguing and keep me guessing right up to the end.

I have read most of this author's stand-alone books and am a big fan of her writing. Having read this one, I want to go back and read to the others in the series.

I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway.

Some disappointing things in this book: A very unsatisfying ending. No major conflict is resolved. It's as if the author took a book and cut it in half. Doesn't work well as a stand alone novel.

Also, I don't think the family issues are believable. Sidney has never done anything to make her family discount her version of certain events in the past. I can't understand why they would alienate her after she told them of the horrible things that she endured.

I probably won't be reading the sequel.

didnt like - the hints and clues were obvious by the time 50% of the book, Alex Kava's other books are better and gripping!

The main character Maggie O'Dell goes no further in this, still fighting nightmares and not sleeping much!
