It's no secret, I love a good hockey romance and Kings of the Ice is certainly a very promising series. It's one of those series where you already get attached to all characters and are excited for everyone's stories. I really enjoyed the first book and it ended up in a way that made you crave the second one instantly!
Read if you like:
~ hockey romance
~ forced proximity
~ dislike to love
~ work relationship
~ he falls first
This story was gooooooood, like very good. The first encounter really made me laugh and it certainly gave the vibe for our character's relationship. They had good chemistry and even more great banter. The forced proximity was chef's kiss. Vince fell so hard and it was really delightful to see. The way Maven kept pushing him away got old after a while though. I get she had trauma from past experiences but it was a bit frustrating how she kept refusing to open her eyes and try to be happy a little instead of breaking everyone's heart, hers included.
The fact that our two MMCs were in kind of a work relationship added to the fun because it felt a bit like a forbidden/secret romance, which I always enjoy. As much as I loved Vince, I have to be honest and say that I did not forgive him some of his actions... I'm a resentful bitch and the whole getting the other jealous by having people on you until the point where she cries made me really mad. And not only did this happen once but... TWICE! She already has trust issues with your type could you please try to help your case a little... ugh... anyways.
So yeah, I did enjoy this one a lot and will continue the series for sure!

Giving this a solid 3.5 stars - I wanted to give it 4, but I found some flaws that made me dock a bit off.
I liked the general theme of this book and i liked that there was heavy elements in hockey, game play, etc. I freakin' LOVED the Coach's attitude - I am really hoping he gets a book, I don't know why but he was hilarious.
I loved the side characters, they had good personalitiies and kept it interesting.
What I didn't like? Maven, the FMC - took until 84% of the book to even give this poor guy Vince a chance. It wasn't slow burn, they were "friend's with perks" from around 40%ish but like ... 84% until she actually said "huh, maybe I can give this guy an actual chance." Like for the vast majority of this book - the MMC was being so good to her. Made her an indoor garden, made sure she was comfortable at events with the team, included her in things, showed her who he was in private and APOLOGIZED when he snapped at her... and she just ... was so stuck in her head that she wouldn't even give him an actual chance?
I also didn't like that the MMC used other women at times to get Maven to understand she was jealous and not showing her true feelings.
I also found that after around 84% the book kinda lost it's um... plot? Like it just time jumped and then the epilogue was the teaser of the next book.
It all happened so fast I feel like I got whiplash from 84% of this book being ... well, not that.
Anyways, for a solid 80% of this book I did enjoy it. Was it mindblowing? No. Did it have elements of other popular sports novels? Of course - most do at this point. Would I say it's a must read? Prooooobably not.
But I did enjoy it anyways so there's that :)

Y’all this WAS SO SWEET AND DELICIOUS! Thank you to Kandi for providing me with this arc bc WOOOOWEEE I am in my Kandi Steiner hockey era
4.5 stars
Maven had sworn off athletes, her ex did her dirty, and now she was determined to hate all athletes. But in a twist of fate she is thrust into the life of Tampa Osprey's rookie, hotshot playboy, and must document his life. If it works her career could blow up and she could have everything she could ever want. She must keep everything professional regardless of how tempting Vince is. But Vince is determined to show her a different side of him, and show he that she has met her match!
I can see where someone would not be as big of a fan of this book. Self Deprecating characters are not usually my jam, but when you see the characters recognizing the issues and when they have a self growth victory moment, then I am sold. Maven was great and such a baddie, but fell a little flat later on in the book. Vince made this book for me though!! He is such a marshmallow! Loved seeing the playboy antics in the beginning and him becoming more and more of a softie for Maven, then building his walls back up, then throwing them all out the window for her.
But if you are looking for spice and chemistry and tension, look no further! These two in the beginning had me holding on for dear life and not wanting to put this book down!!! Like dear lord I think I was sweating!
The beginning slightly overwhelmed me with the amount of characters that were being introduced, but I liked being able to watch them develop as the book goes on, and seeing more and more into them. Got me much more excited for their books. I had little erks here and there like not seeing her family till the very end, and her talking about what she wants for her career kind of disappearing in the middle there.
Something Kandi did that I wish more authors did, was her epilogue took the point of view of the character from the next book. I have only seen one author do it and I loved it, and seeing another author do it brought me so much joy and I loved the sneak peak.

Maven gets her dream job with her dream media company, but in order to prove herself and get the freedom to write about what she really wants, she first has to show that she can succeed at any assignment. That first assignment is to follow around professional hockey heartthrob, Vince Tanev, for the season.
The ANGST in this book. Kandi always writes the best slow burn and the spiciest crash when they finally give into each other. I loved their banter and the way their relationship develops, you can't help but love their love!
