Would have been 5 stars, but for the insistent universal cueing and unnecessary machismo. The info is valuable, but there doesn't need to be a joke about how every stretch is so painful you'll black out or that if you alter your form, a loved one will die. Chill out, my guy.

This is less a book to read from cover to cover, and more a coffee table (or gym, more accurately) resource. I learned a lot from this book in terms of both movement and mobility, and I will return to this as a resource time and gain. I think the beginning chapters are certainly worth reading, however, and I tried to cheat the system by skipping right to the mobility bits and found myself returning to read them. I understand that the format of this new edition is much improved since the previous one, so I think a lot of the kinks were worked out, but I would like to see improvements to the index in future editions. I use indices all the time in non-fiction books, but in this it is especially important, and I think there needs to be more detailed listings for each body part and issues you might be dealing with. I think some of the information is more ideology than fact (simply because there's a lot we still don't know about movement and mobility), so I think that readers need to be cognisant that their movements may never look 'ideal' no matter how closely they follow Kelly's advice. Overall, however, this is an excellent book worth having on your shelves for both active, athletic people and those who spend too much time hunched over desks.

If you are looking for a guide for mobility and corrective exercises, this the the book for your home library! The text is at the right level for the average non-professional user, if a little chatty. I happen to like that myself but some might not. The exercises are very clear and well documented, you can't' go wrong with this reference! I am an older woman who enjoys intense exerciser and this book has been invaluable to mo

Great reference book for Personal Trainers & athletes.

I hesitate to refer to this as "the best fitness book" as I've heard so many do. As it stands, it is currently used as part of my monitor riser(along with an anatomy and physiology reference book). I can't say I've had to pull it out and reference it too frequently, but ever so often we have one client come along who really challenges our brains.

I'd buy it again if I had to.

This book is basically an encyclopedia of human movement, what the bio-mechanically correct positions are and how to correct for incorrect positions. I have always had problems with my knees and ankles, and now I have a plan to fix some of those problems. It feels good knowing what the problems are, and why my knees hurt me after exercise. It is a bit daunting- this is going to be a lot of work, and I will have to scale back on my squatting weight and work on form for a while. However after one week I feel like I've already made progress and have improved my range of motion. Anyone who lifts weights should read this book, but it is also useful for any athlete or any person with joint pain.

The one bad thing about this book is that the author has a bit of a cocky attitude and sometimes writes as if he's speaking to a bunch of guys in the locker room. And there are passages that could have been cut down to 1/3 the length with some editing. But despite these flaws the information and organization is incredible, and he breaks down each exercise and leaves no room for doubt about what the correct form should be, there are tons of pictures- I highly recommend getting this book and trying to ignore the tone and language.

I borrowed this book from the library and plan to buy it, because it is one that I will want to refer to for years.

I cannot say enough about this book. My acupuncturist recommended it to me and I have been referring to it for several years. I just completed a cover to cover reading to go through everything and wish I had done so as soon as I bought it. There is so much good information and the diagrams are extremely informative. Dr. Starrett goes through all of the theory (bracing, one joint rule, torque, etc.) and then illustrates the body archetypes that most movements can be broken into. The next section demonstrates many exercises (by increasing demands) before getting into the mobilization techniques. He includes many diagnostic tools along the way so that the user can assess target areas and then refer to the other sections of the book to attack any problem areas. The book is very user friendly and is an invaluable resource.
