follow up with Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase to Catch Lincoln's Killer

This book took me a while to read mainly because I was busy, but every time I picked it up, I had so much fun! It was really an intriguing way to tell a story that everyone has heard, and I learned a lot about the context surrounding the assassination in general.

I’m by no stretch of the imagination a history buff, but I was able to read this book without having any confusion. Everything was explained well, but concisely and straight to the point.

I really enjoyed the context provided concerning the plot to assassinate Lincoln and Lincoln’s activities in the months leading up to the assassination. It really brings more emotion into the entire situation and makes you really feel for the hurt that it must have caused America and his family. Great book!

Very interesting. I had heard some of these things before. Some were new.

Made me think of time I've spent in the South and I find myself wondering if Lincoln had lived and had been able to pursue his plans for reconciliation, would he have been successful? Would our country be different today?

I did like this book, but have to admit that I repeatedly caught my mind wandering away as I was listening. I'm usually more attentive, but somehow this one was less captivating.

I was surprised by how much I liked this book. It reads like fiction instead of nonfiction. Also, I had never been interested in our civil war era before, but this book has piqued my interest!

The most memorable revelation in this book was what happened after Lincoln was shot. There are many "What if" theories out there, but this book did not deal in theories, only in fact.

And, I had no idea what was involved in the aprehension of John Wilkes Booth, or anything about him in fact.

I would definitely recommend this book to others!

Pretty amazing book. I had a hard time getting in to battle of the civil war, but the assissination information was incredible!

History made interesting. The author really brought the people to life.

Of the three "Killing..." books that I read, this is definitely the best of them. (I was rather unimpressed with "Killing Jesus" and lukewarm about "Killing Kennedy." However, I don't know if it is so much because the writing is better as much as the fact that I was not as knowledgeable about the full circumstances of Lincoln's assassination.

The specifics behind the assassination (I.e, the fact it was a larger conspiracy to kill the top level of the US government, and that Lincoln's "bodyguard" that night was so derelict in his duties) made this a fascinating and enjoyable read. It truly did read like a thriller, not a historical book. The re-telling of the last few battles of the Civil War were just "icing on the cake."

Regardless, a worthy time investment!
