I have some mixed feelings with this book. I found it incredibly hard to get through, but interesting none the least.
The things I didn't like:
1. How slow moving it seemed at times.
2. How the only relevant part of the story was the last 100 pages, the first 400 were somewhat unnecessary.
3.
SpoilerThat my favorite character had to die at the end, i'm still sad about it

4. How jumbled things got at times, felt as if too much was happening at one point in time.
5. There was no Zu whatsoever, only brief mentions of her from events in the last book.

The things I did like:
1. Jude, he has become my favorite character in the entire series.
2. How we were able to see how everyone has grown and changed after the ending of the 1st book.
3. The new characters introduced.
4. The ending, last 100 pages, it began real exciting and face-paced.

All in all this was an OK addition to the series, I'm still a little unsure of what I want to rate this, but can't wait to read the 3rd one and finish off this series.

I really enjoyed this book. I feel sorry the movie adaptation of the first book was so weak. I wish the whole series could be adapted into film.

”i don’t want to just see someone’s face; i want to know his shadow, too.”

thank you so much lexi for buddy reading this book with me!! i had loads of fun <3

”ghosts don’t haunt people—their memories do.”

this book was so great!! i will say though, it was very slow for the first 100 pages or so, but afterwards it picked up pace pretty quickly. the ending made me cry; i had a feeling that was coming, but i really wish it didn’t happen. the plot was also really entertaining and kept me wondering what was going to happen next. i’m super excited to see what’s going to happen in the next book, in the afterlight !!

”oh, i’m sorry, apparently the middle of my sentence interrupted the beginning of yours. do continue.”

the characters in this series are incredible. they all had such good character development and the new side characters were amazing as well! tbh vida annoyed me sometimes, but i really loved jude. i do wish we got to see zu though! i’m definitely glad i read the novella before this because she was in there. i also loved chubs in this book. he grew so much as a character!!

”give ‘em hell, darling.”

i’ll be honest, i preferred liam and ruby’s romance in the first book, but i did still enjoy it in this one!! i love how they just get each other. they don’t need words to communicate their thoughts, all they have to do is look at one another and they know exactly what they’re feeling. so, those are my thoughts on this book!! tysm for reading <3

”i look at you, and i just love you, and it terrifies me. it terrifies me what i would do for you.”

love,
sumi

To be honest, I wasn't a big fan of the first book in the trilogy. I guess it was because I've heard many good things about it and that raised my expectations. It disappointed me a little. We were left with a cliffhanger at the end of the first book, and that cliffhanger was what caused me to pick up the second book. In my opinion, [b:Never Fade|16150830|Never Fade (The Darkest Minds, #2)|Alexandra Bracken|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1368460550s/16150830.jpg|21986942] started off a little slowly but started picking up in the middle of the book. It raised my standards of the trilogy.

1. Ruby. Ruby's character development was freaking awesome! She gets things done, doesn't take shit from anyone, and is so focused! I love Ruby's whole 'the-only-person-I-need-is-myself' attitude. This is the peak of her character development arc!

“When you have people relying on you, you can’t put on anything other than a brave, determined face, otherwise you chip away at their confidence, too.” -Ruby

2. Characters. We're introduced to new characters. It took me a while to warm up to them, but when I did, I saw how funny and adorable and awesome they are! Vida is hilarious and definitely one of my favorite characters. Jude is so sweet and I love how he calls Ruby "Roo". Chubs and Ruby's friendship is as sweet as ever, too. I'd love them to be my best friends!

“If either of you breathe a word—one goddamn word—about Cate, I will come down on you so hard, they’ll be naming hurricanes after me for a fucking century.” -Vida

3. Plot. So. Much. Action. Seriously, sometimes the action exhausted me and I'm not even the one fighting! Whenever something good happens, a bad event gets shoved down your throat; it was tiring. This book took the turmoil from TMD and cranked it up! The story confused me. There were too many side plots going on at the same time and it was really hard keeping up. I do think the Children's League is cool though, they're so kickass. All those fighting lessons and cool commands they use on OPs... Sometimes it made me wish I was in the Children's League.

4. Writing. Woah! Alexandra Bracken's writing style made my jaw drop with all these one-liner deep quotes and accurate analogies. At times, I had to shut the book and think about the what she says. It's that deep!

“Ghosts don’t haunt people—their memories do.” (This is staying with my for the rest of my life)

“I didn’t want to give him the false hope that these people were anything other than lone candle flames in a sea of never-ending black.” (That analogy though)

“Sometimes you’re the one speeding along in a panic, doing too much, not paying attention, wrecking things you don’t mean to. And sometimes life just happens to you, and you can’t dodge it. It crashes into you because it wants to see what you’re made of.” (That was such a smooth analogy!)

“I felt his eyes fix on me the way you feel a beam of sunlight cut through a window. Warm. Focused.”

OVERALL: Marvelous action-packed story with a sublime writing style and unique characters. I couldn't put it down. I'd recommend this to everyone who likes well-written stories.

I can't believe I didn't review this right after I finished it. I hate it when I don't do that because all the feelings aren't fresh in my brain.

So after the first book crushed my soul, the second book picks up with Ruby working for Kate and we get a new cast of people. I don't remember most of them that well because I didn't really care that much. I always dislike it when the second book or season has to introduce a million new characters instead of focusing on the ones that you really wanted to hear about. Ok, so its Vida, Nico and Jules, I had to look it up through the lovely Recaptions.

I think the more important of the new roles was Cole, who is Liam's older brother and an agent with the Children's League. I loved his part of the story because he was a great reminder to Ruby about what she did in the previous book and kept Liam still fresh in the story until he could be brought back in. Basically Cole had been working undercover. He and Liam met up, but someone was tailing Liam, so as he tried to make a quick exit, he took Cole's jacket instead of his own along with some important data Cole had been collecting. Needless to say, the Children's League needed that information so they set out to find Liam.

Poor Liam has been through hell since Ruby left him. They find him in a camp near Nashville operated by a kid named Knox who claims to be the Slip Kid (obviously Ruby knows better), but Knox is a big bully who has a lot of blues at his back. He thinks of the other colors as lesser, he doesn't feed them as well, and if they get sick, they are left out in the cold with no food since they weren't able to provide for themselves. This is where we find Liam again, the poor child nearly half frozen and practically dying from pneumonia. Needless to say, Ruby is pissed.

Much of the book revolves around Liam and Ruby dealing with trying to heal him as well as him dealing with his memories. Honestly, it's heart breaking because my love for Liam is very strong. But we are reunited with the friendly face of Clancy as well, who has shown up at the Children's League after the group returns. Naturally, he has a scheme, but I wasn't really surprised to find out his mother had something to do with the experimentations.

The book ends very dramatically, but not to such a degree that I felt devastated. Just mildly broken. Overall, I loved this book. I love the uniqueness of the story, but still he common elements from the first one. I loved seeing old characters again and I'm glad to see Liam and Ruby back together again. I just kinda hope that lasts. And I'm really interested to see more about Cole, I will admit he was the character that surprised me.

OH MY GOD??????
I don't usually write reviews so this will most probably a mess but still oh my god!!!

I've literally finished the darkest minds 4 days ago and started Never fade the next day because I couldn't put it down (really tho these books went with me to school, to eat, to use the bathroom, everywhere!) And I am just oh my god?? First of all Cole?? God I fucking love that dude. His whole vibe is just so fucking immaculate and great, same goes for Liam I love those two so much I can't even explain it.

Sure the book dragged on sometimes but it can't all be action and I don't think it was bad that it was slower sometimes because in the end it was so freaking good I don't even have the words to fully describe my feelings. The ending tho?? Should be illegal with that cliffhanger. I am so glad that when I was first deciding about buying the darkest minds I bought the whole series instead because I just knew I needed more Liam scenes and to know about his brother after I watched the movie lol

Genuinely tho, great freaking book can't wait to start In the after light!!
