challenging emotional informative

It took me a long time to finish this book because I kept having to pause and think about what I read, but it's what I need to understand my brain

3.75. I have a horrible potty mouth and it was a little much even for me sometimes but there was good content in there, so it was worth the listen for me.
reflective fast-paced

Other than the information relating to how the brain processes trauma put in scientific terms I didn't learn anything new from this book. Good for people beginning their mental health journey but for people who already know how to cope with their mental health issues it's not worth the time. I listened to this on audible and I'm glad I didn't spend any money on it, the narrator was stuttering, the audio quality was poor, and there was occasional background noise. If you do end up picking this book up I recommend getting a physical copy instead.

Accomplishes what it explicitly states it's trying to do - be an accessible primer to psychology and potentially be of use in acute settings with people who actively need help. Is it the above-all be-all resource on this subject, no, but I found the approach admirable and the content accessible.

I'd consider recommending this to a friend in need of a book in this category.

Unf#ck Your Brain: Using Science to Get Over Anxiety, Depression, Anger, Freak-Outs, and Triggers written by Dr. Faith G. Harper is a satisfying and eye-opening read.
The book begins by explaining the basic functionality of the brain and some brain chemistry. Essentially this book is about trauma and how the brain is rewired by trauma. Dr. Harper explores anxiety, anger, addiction and depression and what is happening between the ears when we are experiencing these feelings. Each chapter ends with different techniques, exercises and suggestion to help you navigate these issues.
Despite the heaviness of the subject matter, this book is lighthearted, witty, fun and above all…informative. I highly recommend this book if you or someone you love is dealing with a trauma. - Thomas B.

Ugh...

DNF. Will try to circle back on this.

This is Part 1 of the Five Minute Therapy series by Harper and helpful for those who have been in therapy and need to get back on track.

As the title indicates, this book is full of strong language, but the science is real and her advice is extremely helpful. The appendix of recommended titles to read at the end is comprehensive and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had read several of the books.

This is an easy book to read in a day, and her Five Minute Therapy series is enjoyable and informative.

Basic information, the cussing was excessive. It was a struggle to finish.
