This book has good info on how your brain deals with mental illnesses and ways to go about dealing with them in better ways-- focusing mainly on mental illness aspects related to trauma. There are many side comments during explanations, which when addition to the cursing, make it more accessible to some people. Even though the cursing gets a bit excessive, the book seems to serve the purpose of why it was written. It was an alright quick read that gave me a couple new ways to think about things but that was about it for me, personally.

Not a very good book- TERRIBLE to listen to on audible. Faith recorded it herself and it sounds like she did so in her NYC apartment living room, where background noise and distractions are abundant. Truly awful quality.

The book itself might be helpful if you specifically are dealing with grief or anxiety or trauma- but as someone who is pretty optimistic and privileged, I didn’t need a lot of this and get more educational value by watching episodes of big mouth featuring the depression kitty and Tito the anxiety mosquito.

Very straightforward introduction to mental health topics!

The book was pretty good with its information but the audio book version was terrible quality and made it nearly impossible to get engaged with. If you can read the book and don’t do the audio version.

So funny! People complaining about her curse words. The book title is UNFUCK Your Brain. What the fuck did you expect?

I agree the audio is terrible, but that’s no reason to give the book a low rating.

To the actual review:

--------

This is what I call “an introductory book”. This book is for people that are starting their journey on mental health awareness.

There’s no fancy scienty words on this book. You can tell inmeditaly that the author doesn’t like bullshit (neither do I), so she explains the science part very quickly but effectively, which eliminates the overwhelming thoughts like: Do I need to learn all this information to get better?

This book SHOULD NOT be your only resource for mental healing and the author actually mentions other books and resources.

Her excercies were extremely helpful and I will be using them more consistently to deal with my anxiety and seasonal depression.

If you think you're too good for adults words, skip this book. It may cause you to miss the point. But just know that there's power in adult words. There's liberation. You should try it, maybe you begin to be less uptight and give yourself the gift of NOT GIVING A FUCK!

This book is refreshing at some points but admittedly is not for everyone. The audio version was horrible, though!! I like that the author talks about things that aren’t commonly talked about in these types of books. I liked her open outlook to healing. However, it was much too short. I would have loved to hear more details about certain topics and to learn more about the studies behind the things mentioned.

2.5 ⭐️

Not sure what I expected, but the audiobook quality wasn’t great and I’m not sure I gleaned much.

Man. I listened to an hour and a half of this book, I can’t do it anymore. First, the recording quality is abysmal. Second, the content. She is trying way too hard to be likable and relatable, and her information - which I’m sure is fantastic - is lost in the process. This isn’t the book of a life coach, she’s a mental health professional; I wish it had just been that.

The content was helpful and easy to understand.
That being said, if you dislike swearing, this book is NOT for you. There is A LOT of swearing.
Also, unfortunately, the audiobook was of poor quality. It sounded like she recorded this book in her bedroom closet and had no one to help with editing. Even so, I did feel that this book had helpful information about anxiety, depression, addiction, and how to support someone who is grieving.

A decent primer, but I had hoped for a bit more depth.
