Unfuck Your Brain: Using Science to Get Over Anxiety, Depression, Anger, Freak-Outs, and Triggers
Faith G. Harper
WOW, this book is so incredibly helpful especially because we are living through very traumatic times. The author, Faith Harper, is a talk therapist and breaks down which parts of our brain get trigger that cause us to have emotional break downs. She also includes great techniques for grounding yourself when you are experiencing a trauma response. I highly, highly, highly recommend this book, especially if you have been seeing doctors for your mental health for a decade like I have.

I didn’t love her writing style but the information was still interesting.
I borrowed this on audio from the library, but it would be well worth the $10ish. It wasn’t new information to me, but it was presented with really helpful analogies and clarity. I feel like, having finished it, I just had a few hours of therapy.
Terrible audiobook quality and didn't like the content/approach for the most part. 2.5 stars.
Just wasn't for me. Felt like it was trying a bit too hard. Can't really describe it.
Meh. The content is decent. Some of it is the generic self-helpy stuff any book on anxiety comes with. But the science-based approach to understanding anxiety is something I haven’t looked at before, and did help to give me perspective on how and why it occurs. I also thought there were some interesting self talk and coping strategies in the book that I will probably use.
That said, the language was a bit much. It mellows out in the second half of the book, but the cursing was overwhelming, and that’s coming from someone who has no problem incorporating curse words in normal conversation. I think it just felt forced to a point where it was actually distracting me from taking in the relevant information, especially in the science section of the book.
Oh, and the audiobook. I almost knocked my review down to 2 stars because of it. The quality is bad. It’s only about 3.5 hours which is why I picked it up initially, but the sound quality is terrible and I don’t think the author was the best person to read the book in all honesty. I would highly recommend that you grab the hard copy to read this!

I have no problem with profanity, but it feels like a gimmick here. Obviously the title should have given that away. The author likes to stuff as many curse words into a sentence as possible to be relatable, I guess? I looked past that and tried to focus on the actual science which was fine until the author started talking about the benefits of Reiki and "healing your energies", apparently you can fix mental health problems with a chiropractor and by avoiding GMOs and gluten. Don't let the title fool you. Citing a single study that said a chiropractic adjustment was effective at something does not equate to the scientific method.

This is a fast read to learn more about these topic. I usually don’t mind cursed words, but this one has a lot of it at the beginning. The cursed words are more spread out after that. She has good contents in this book.
