4.5 stars. I'm going to get a physical copy so I can mark it up. So much to learn/unlearn!
Two and a half stars?
Full disclosure: I couldn't finish the book. The same message worded different ways was repeated to a point where it was like beating a dead horse. I really appreciated the body positive, food is food message but for all the scientific citations, I don't entirely trust the message or author. Personal anecdotes can only sell you so far. I didn't enjoy the author's mistrust of veganism/vegetarianism. Meh. I had high hopes and enjoyed the first few chapters. After awhile, it got old.

I read this as part of my 2024 genre challenge but I'm refraining from writing a review as I do not want to support this author in any way.
I hate the use of the word diet in the title but understand why, the book is outstanding in all other ways. Definitely 5 stars, would be really excellent for people who are newer to the science of why body weight cannot be regulated and concepts like intuitive eating, body acceptance, joyful movement, and just living your damn life ♡ weight loss does not meet the criteria for evidence based medicine and this book asks those who are seeking it to redefine the way they seek health and the role that weight and food play in their lives. What's not to love about that and liberating people?

I understand where she was going by saying we need to let go of our diets and open up to all foods, but I just couldn't get on board with alot of the generalizing. I felt like it was a bunch of ways to say one general idea, like on repeat. It's not a book for everyone, I'm sure some people loved it. It just wasn't for me.
Read this if you struggle with weight/eating, if you are dieting, consider dieting, or if you are a human being with a body.
Dooner explains why dieting is unhealthy and ineffective, how restrictive eating makes you more obsessed with food, and how to say fuck it to dieting and start to eat naturally and intuitively.
It was very specific with what to do and not to do, as well as informative about dieting and health
