So much fun! I loved michaels voice because it read so similar to my MC in my novel. It also had this staunch atheist over here choking up a bit.
Really great coming of age story with a nice message of tolerance.
4.5 stars
This book had an amazingly even-handed look at religion, respectfully looking at issues from a wide variety of viewpoints.

This was a very funny and sarcastic (yet interesting) look at the Catholic religion.
Michael is an atheist, and after yet another move due to his father's job, he is not looking forward to attending St. Clare's. That changes though when he meets the secret group Heretics's Anonymous. Through the people in the group he finds unexpected friendships and understanding--but how long will it really last?
This reminded me a little bit of Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu, with a secret group trying to make changes in their school. Teens who enjoy sarcastic wit and making a difference may really like it.

As someone who went to Catholic school for 12 years, I appreciated that he narrator was coming in from outside to consider its goings-on from another perspective. When you are raised in that environment (as is so often the case), it's easy to believe there is no other way to live or think. I appreciated the thoughtfulness of the author about the questions she raises and allows reasonable critique and smart rebuttals on issues of religion. I also liked the acknowledgment that sometimes the court of public opinion is the only place to go, understanding that often the public at large will have a different opinion and options than the institution in which problematic shit is happening in.
A teenaged athiest with Daddy issues ends up in a Catholic school in a brand new town... Really interesting premise and a very touching story. I would love for the characters to have been a little more developed, but I appreciated the the author allowed the teens to hold their own opinions and thoughts... Really glad I read this one. <3
NEW FAVORITE BOOK!!! AMAZING, INCREDIBLE, FANTASTIC!!
I really appreciated the authenticity of this story. It follows Michael, a teenage atheist who is enrolled in Catholic school. I am an atheist (although that came in adulthood for me) and I feel like I connected with Michael and the other Heretics as well. I personally don't go out of my way trying to change anyone's minds on what and why they believe what they believe. But I'd absolutely be lying if I said I didn't agree with Michael's thoughts throughout this story at times too (I just usually keep those thoughts to myself). This story was funny, heartbreaking, and heartwarming. The ending was a little cheesy and cliched, but all-in-all, a wonderful read. Would definitely be interested in more from Katie Henry.
This book was amazing! Great story, wonderful characters and very interesting topics.
What happens when you put an atheist, a Catholic, a gay Jew, a pagan, and a cloak-wearing Unitarian together in a room?
No, that's not the setup to some long, complicated joke that you're going to tune out halfway through, it's Heretics Anonymous. And you're going to want to read about them.
Heretics Anonymous explores what happens when an atheist ends up in Catholic school, and what happens when you surround yourself with people who are different than you and actually listen to their beliefs. At its core, this book teaches tolerance, but thankfully it's wrapped up in a sarcastic, snarky package.
