I found this book boring. I could not connect with the characters.

Slow start, good middle, predictable and rather dull end.
medium-paced

I'll admit I bought this purely because I liked the cover and the red edges of the pages! However, I read it in 2-3 sittings and thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked the way that the story was told in two different eras of time and from different points of view. A definite page turner and all my other current reads were left untouched until I had finished this. It was just over 400 pages, yet I felt it I had only read 200 or so. I'll definitely be buying Jessie's previous book.

Fantastic - totally different vibe from her last book but really loved this.

Loved this so much. And the cover is absolutely gorgeous!

i absolutely loved this story, but the heart of it was very, very frustrating to me and i can't quite get to the point i believe the author wanted me to get to. there are some injustices i can't really reconcile and one of those is misattributed art, and there's just no way to resolve that in a satisfying way for me besides "everyone is set straight and that's talked about thoroughly". there just wasn't enough of that for me. but frustrations aside, odette's journey as a writer was beautiful and measured and made a perfect sense to me that not many books about writers achieve. when this book avoided too much melodrama, it was spectacular.

Well written good pace. Guessed some of the hidden identities. Enjoyed the time jumps in the narratives. Interesting take on the place of women in art.

I was rather excited about this having loved [b:The Miniaturist|18498569|The Miniaturist|Jessie Burton|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1392415313s/18498569.jpg|25328659]. Not as good unfortunately, but still a well-written and entertaining story.
