I really liked this one. I've loved this series & how complex the characters are, and cannot wait to keep reading more.

Colin and Jen... They go way back, back to when they were neighbors growing up. Colin was best friends with Danny, Jen's older brother. Colin and Danny were supposed to join the Army together except they didn't. Except Colin stayed back to run the business his absent dad offered him. Except Danny got deployed and never came back.
Once Danny died Jen couldn't stay at her house anymore. Her parents were ignoring her, wallowing in their sons death. It had been months and they needed to move on but it just wasn't happening so she just left. To make ends meet she worked as a waitress at a strip club, or so she says. There's no way in hell is she telling people what she really did. Not even Colin. The Colin that saved her from working at the strip club and living in her car to offering her a fabulous new job at his bar and restaurant, The District. He also gave her a place to live, his own house.
Colin believed it was the least he could do. He felt guilty and responsible. Guilty that Danny died. Guilty that Jen left her home. He was supposed to take care of Jen. He had promised Danny that.
Jen has been living at Colin's for months now. Every night she hears him screaming and mumbling in his sleep and every night she leaves her room and climbs into his and just holds him. They never talk about what happens at night and Jen wishes they would. They have a spark and it's undeniable but Colin treats her like his little sister and nothing more. She wants more and she wants it with Colin except for the fact he won't get over feeling guilty over her brother's death and it was not even his fault. This was the reason she left her home in the first place. She's giving him a month to get his act together and realize what they have. If not, she's leaving and never looking back.
This book was HOT, HOT, HOT! The chemistry between Jen and Colin is crazy. This book is a definite must read. If the last three books were incredible I cannot wait to read Owen's book! I love Monica Murphy and her writing. I'm going to be sad when the books come to an end.

maybe 3.5 stars....

i was sooooo looking forward to colin and jen's story after meeting them in the second chance books, but sadly i was disappointed. i didn't even really enjoy this one. i liked colin and jen when they were introduced in fable and drew's story, but sadly i couldn't stand them in their own story. jen drove me crazy. that girl seriously needs some life skills! or maybe just some common sense. and colin's reasons for not telling jen how he felt.... so weak. just wanted to slap them! and where was the chemistry between these two?

and what is with dream sequences that solve the mc's problems. that so irks me. i need more depth than that, just seems like the easy way out.

spoiler warning...

when jen finally moves in when her new roommate, i could totally tell that the roommates boyfriend was shady. so jen is in the process of getting raped yet the girlfriend/roommate believes that jen jumped her boyfriend. WHAT? why would you scream if you were trying to hook up with someone's boyfriend, when his girlfriend was sleeping in the next room. could the roommate/girlfriend have been any more stupid? sex addict? seriously?

i was so over jen and colin.... by the end of the book when they got together, i was annoyed with their "i love you" lovey dovey-ness.

end spoiler......

i really wanted to like this one. i wanted to love it since i enjoyed the first two books.... despite this one not being my favorite i'll still probably continue to read the series, it there's more. we get owen's story right????

full review to come.

Will you all hate me when I say that I think I like Colin and Jen better than I like Drew & Fable?

There was just something about their story that drew me in a little deeper. I'm a sucker for brothers-best-friend-in-love-with-little-sister stories apparently.

I rather enjoyed the back and forth of Colin letting his feelings for Jen show then pulling back because she was "off-limits". It provided just enough angst to keep the story interesting while not being overly dramatic.

I am over the top crushing on Jen because I really think that despite her insecurities about her past she is a really strong woman who knows who she is and what she wants. I was so glad to see her just lay it all out there for Colin that she wanted him but at the same time making sure that he knew she needed her independence. I just wish that she had been more forthcoming with him from the beginning.

I do feel like their story ended rather hurriedly and I could have probably stood for another few chapters, just because I couldn't get enough of them but overall I REALLY enjoyed this book!

I really enjoyed this book!
It was very different from the first two in the series, and yet, it was still as good.
Of course since it's not the same couple, you hope it won't be the same kind of book, and the author did a great job at making their story completely different from Fable and Drew's.

description

Collin, God, how I hated to see you struggle with guilt you didn't even need to have. I know it's hard, but I just wanted him to stop thinking so much most of the time. I mean between the guilt from this, and the guilt from that, he never truly lived a happy life.
Jen needs commitment from the man she loves desperately, but is afraid to ask too much of him and miss her shot before she leaves.

It's hard watching two people love each other but get held back because of the past. Colin, I wanted to shake a lot of sense into you when we could read how you felt about her, but did nothing about it, and letting her think you were indifferent.
So yeah, this was basically their relationship for a while.

But sometimes he could also be really cute, and romantic, and those are the parts that made you fall in love with Collin Wilder.

"I'd do anything for you," I vow solemnly. "Haven't you realize that yet?"

Of course Fable and Drew are still my babies and I do love them a bit more than I loved Collin and Jen. So it was really nice to see that they weren't forgotten, but at the place put in this story as secondary characters. Fable was kind of a badass in this one, and Drew the voice of reason. God I love that man, he makes me laugh.

So I'm quite sad to have finished this book so quickly, but at least I have Owen's story to expect soon.

This is the story of Colin and Jen, who we met in the previous Drew + Fable books. Jen is Fable's best friend and works at the bar/restaurant called The District, which is owned by Colin. As we had learned in the previous books in the series, Colin and Jen grew up with each other as Colin was Jen's brother best friend. We finally get to find out the history between Colin and Jen, but in the end I didn't feel like I had quite the same connection with them as I did with the previous books.

Jen's family was torn apart when her brother died while serving in Afghanistan. She left home, feeling neglecting and hoping for something better. But things did not turn out the way she planned and she ended up living in her car and working at a strip club. Enter her brother's best friend, Colin. He saves her, gives her a job and a place to stay. Both of them fight their attraction for one another. Jen feeling like she's dirty and tainted and Colin like he's breaking another promise to his dead best friend. I could completely see where both of them were coming from, but it was tiresome after a while. I wanted one of them to say say what they mean and act on how they feel instead of dancing around everything.

Fable and Drew put in their appearances, trying to play the voice of reason to both Colin and Jen's stubbornness. It was nice to get a quick glimpse at the two of them and see they were still going strong, but that tiny glimpse made me realize I was missing that spark between Colin and Jen like I had with Drew and Fable. Even though the two of them could say to themselves that they needed and/or wanted the other, I didn't always feel that. At the very end, I caught a glimmer of that, but it wasn't enough to make me believe they truly should be together.

The review may not seem like it, but this was still a good read. It connected the dots on two characters that are part of the larger Drew + Fable storyline. It just wasn't at gut-wrenchingly emotional as the other two books in the series. It doesn't make it bad, just not what I was expecting.

Three Broken Promises is that kind of NA story with a lot of sex but little to the story. Yes there is a story but it is bland. I read this series long time ago. My taste has since revolved. Not a big fan of this anymore.

Miss Murphy older book does not hit the right spot for me.

Anyway.... moving on

Can a relationship between two people ever be such a disappointment? Between Colin and Jen I couldn't decide who was more pathetic and the story made me like neither of them. She wanted him but she was scared of her past more than staying. He wanted her but he was afraid of what the relationship would be like after sex. Ugh. Everyone else was wondering wtf was wrong with these two and why they weren't together. I mean seriously how much do we have to take. Thanks for an arc netgalley for this review but seriously I think the author either hits or misses and this was definitely a miss!
