I was so excited for this book and in the end I was disappointed it. Basically, the story was this:

Jen: I'm leaving because I'm tired of Colin's charity.

Colin: I want Jen to stay.

Lather, rinse, repeat. I was bored and frustrated.

Full review to come.

I really enjoyed One Week Girlfriend and Second Chance Boyfriend (they weren't the best NA I've read but they were super addicting and I gobbled both up one after the other). I was expecting that same addicting readability in Three Broken Promises.

Sadly, it was not so.

We met Colin and Jen, the two main characters of Three Broken Promises, in Second Chance Boyfriend and there were some big sparks between the two of them. It was hinted that they share a history that had to do with Jen's brother. I was dying to know more and when I learned that Colin and Jen were getting their own book, I was really excited.

As soon as I saw Three Broken Promises on Edelweiss I pounced and as soon as I got approved, I started reading. But I quickly grew frustrated and annoyed; I wanted to throw my Kindle against the wall. The story didn't go anywhere. The entire novel was basically the following:

Jen: I'm leaving because I'm tired of Colin's charity.

Colin: I want Jen to stay.

Make-out session.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Like in the previous books in the series, we have alternating first person point of view. I really like dual POVs in books and I looked forward to getting into the head of both characters. But Colin and Jen... ARGH!!... Jen made some really dumb decisions. I wanted to slap some sense into this girl--I'm surprised she's still alive because she really had no common sense. As for Colin, his reason for not telling Jen his true feelings for her was lame and weak. Really, all of their problems would have been quickly resolved if they just sat down and talked. Instead there was no communication and same issues just went around and around and nowhere.

I was bored after the first few chapters. I only reason whey I didn't DNF this book was sheer stubbornness for wanting to finish every book I start. And I might also have some tiny hope that Colin and Jen might finally sit down and talk and they'll redeem themselves in the last third of the book.

Nope. Didn't happen.

By the time they got around to finally talking, I was over it and stopped caring.

I don't know if I'm going to read the next full book in the series (which will focus on Fable's brother) after this one. However, I am not giving up on Monica Murphy just yet. I may not continue with this series but I am going to try her other series called the Billionaire Bachelors Club.

Skip Three Broken Promises.

I really wanted to love this one because I loved Colin and Jen from Fable and Drew's story but the Colin and Jen I met in there didn't show up!

Jen has had it tough. Her brother died and her family went to shit. She was put into a position that no one should be in. I really would have liked to have seen this explored more. Maybe its the masochist in me, but I felt like the potential in this part of the story line to dig deep and get ugly was there. It really would have given a depth to the story that I think was missing. It would have balanced the drama and there is a LOT of drama. My problem with Jen is that she's constantly threatening to do something and then kind of waiting around to see if Colin will take the bait and when he doesn't, she's devastated and then does something stupid. It's annoying. Where is the strong Jen?

There is so much will they/won't they that after a while I began to wonder if I cared which I hated! I love this author and I love the world and characters she has created so it really bothers me how let down I was with 3BP.

Colin totally fell flat too. He's 24 which was surprising to me for some reason. Before 3BP I was read him as older. Maybe it was his commanding and authoritative presence. Makes sense considering he owns a restaurant business. The Colin however was very wishy-washy. He was weak willed and fickle and it was in direct conflict with everything that I had learned about him previously. Then I kind of got why he was 24...he was pretty immature. I get why Jen would be indebted to him. He's taken care of her, he's supported her, he's a family friend, blah blah blah but beyond that he just wasn't attractive. At least to me. What a bummer.

I gave it 3 stars because this book does have plenty of potential and while I really felt let down, it does fast forward the world a little bit. We see the other characters and get to check in with them and see what's up with everyone. So question time. Do I recommend this? Eh, it's up to you. It's kind of a take it or leave it. I'm sure some peeps are gonna love it, but I think some die-hards are going to be disappointed. Does this put me off Monica? Uh, no. No way in hell. I think she's incredibly talented and maybe this book and it's characters just didn't jive with me. (I mean I just used the word jive sooooo make you're own judgement calls about my judgement calls hahaha!). Will I continue with this series? Yes! I really want to see what's up with Fable's Lil Bro! So take my opinion for what it is...my opinion and go from there!

I really was looking forward to this. I had been very intrigued by Colin in Jen in Drew and Fable's books, but something about this didn't grab me the way those books did. Jen was really frustrating and began to really annoy me after awhile. I am still really looking forward to the last two books in the series, but this one didn't work for me.

Jen and Colin's story was so interesting. I love a good brothers best friend so when I found out that Colin was Jen's brothers best friend I couldn't wait to see how their story played out.

Jen works for Colin, he owns restaurants and Jen works for him as well as living at his place. Jen lives with him because after he brother died her family fell apart and she was living in her car until Colin found her and offered her a place to stay and steady work. She was previously working as a stripper and doing a litter extra on the side for more money which she is ashamed of.

Jen and Colin are always there for each other, Jen comforts Colin every night when he has his bad dreams and Colin is always helping Jen. When they finally get together I thought YES, FINALLY, I have been waiting for this but alas it isn't what we wanted. They worked well for a while until they didn't.

Jen wanted to be independent and Colin wanted that for her but Jen wanted him to tell her to stay and fight for her but he didn't he essentially packed her bags and told her to go. It wasn't until Fable literally told him to get his head out of his ass and go and get his girl that he realised how much he loved her

This story has heartbreak and some soul searching but it was wholesome and sweet

Three Broken Promises is the third book coming from Monica Murphy in the series that follows the amazing One Week Girlfriend and Second Chance Boyfriend, and this time we focus on the lives and love of Fable’s friend and co-worker, Jen, and their boss Colin.

This is typical Monica NA fabulous and I didn’t realise how much I missed this gang until I started reading this book, but once I got going I really didn’t want to let them go again so I’m now even more excited for Owen’s book. But for now, we have these wannabe lovers who don’t half like to make things difficult for themselves.

My feelings are pretty mixed for this pair. On one hand, they have both been through so much that they truly, truly deserve happiness and you know from the start – heck, we knew from when we very first met them in Drew and Fable’s books – that they would make each other happy and that they belonged together. But they seem to have a habit of letting their troubled pasts rule their present and at times it was so frustrating!!!! I just wanted to bang their heads together and force them to admit their feelings for each other.

“So. Do you feel the same? Or are you just stringing her along?”
“I-”
“If you say ‘I don’t know,’ I swear to God, I will knee you in the balls.” – Fable to Colin.

I absolutely could not have said it better than Fable did right then. She makes a few appearances in Three Broken Promises, and she’s still the same feisty, out-spoken girl we met and loved almost a year ago! We briefly get to see dreamy Drew again also, but this book is mainly just Jen and Colin.

Although as I said before, their relationship was frustrating, it wasn’t always that way. When I wasn’t pulling my hair out, I was fanning myself from the overload of complete and utter hotness, swooning incredibly hard and falling in love with these great characters created by the amazing MM.

I just want to lean over the center console and press my lips to hers. Steal her thoughts, steal her heart. Like she’s done to me.- Colin.

Filled with emotion, drama, red-hot sex, intensity, and a love may as well have been written in the stars, Three Broken Promises is another must read from Monica Murphy.
