I loved this book but it also annoyed me a hell lot. It gave me The Simple Wild vibes.
Sophie’s mother moved both of them to New York City when Sophie was 12years old out of nowhere without letting Sophie say goodbye to her dad. 20 years later, Sophie’s grandmother died and her aunt called her so that she will come back for the funeral and will reading. Sophie is hurt by her Dad’s silence all those years and he didn’t even try to reach out to contact her. He remarried and took in his wife’ nephew and niece in and raised them. So Sophie feels that he replaced her with them and is rightfully hurt. When she reaches the small town, she is picked up by Braxton (the new wife’s nephew) and he judges her for her outfit and heels and is an asshole to her.
Oh god the reunion scene hurt so much and was emotional. Her Dad didn’t even say much to her. When she went to enter her old bedroom, she was shocked to see that her room is now Elle’s. She thought that her old room would still be intact if they “missed her” as much as she “missed them”. She felt replaced once again.
Obviously there is a secret about the day she left that her mother didn’t tell her. It was kind of annoying how they dragged it out till the will reading. I knew that the secret would paint her Dad as an angel who was misunderstood all those years. She forgave her Dad immediately after learning the truth. Her mother arrived when Sophie was talking to her Dad because the Dad called her. The mother was a blubbering mess because she lied to her daughter for 20 years. And she forgave her mother so easily. I would be so freaking mad being lied to for 20 years. Even the end was unrealistic with her mother coming to visit to help prepare for the wedding. When the mother couldn’t even stand the small town and wanted to get away so badly she CHEATED on her husband with a director who promised to make her a star. So you expect to believe that she visits the small town now and is WELCOME!!!?? Yeah sorry I wouldn’t even associate with that bitch. Plus, it seems that the mother loved Sophie so much and did everything so Sophie would stay with her. Then we find out that the mother leaves Sophie every Holiday (thanksgiving and x-mas) to spend it in the Bahamas with her rich hubby. Yeah fuck off. The mother didn’t love Sophie one bit and was just a selfish bitch.
I felt that Sophie’s romance with Braxton wasn’t the focus of this book. I hated the Braxton slept with another woman at 30%. It felt icky to me. Sophie witnesses his hookup Lori leave his house at like 5 am and she kissed him goodbye. I really felt that scene was unnecessary because it added nothing to the story.

I was gently nudged several times to read this book before I head out to a signing...I'm SO Glad I did. I Loved this book. Braxton is a Man I'd like to meet in real life! Sophie was a beautiful strong female and enjoyed her very much. I loved being on their ranch, and learning the lifestyle. I needed to get to another this week, but I can't wait to get back to Poplar Falls!

I loved this storyline and loved the rawness of the characters! I cannot wait to go back to Popular Falls for the next 4 books!

I'm so sad I didn't love this because with this cover (so gorg!) and premise I was ready to adore it. The story lacked development and depth, the writing style was too basic and simple for my taste, the pacing felt very odd. Loved the ranch setting and heroine's occupation though.

4.5 stars!
I absolutely LOVE a good small town romance and Rustic Hearts by Amber Kelly definitely delivered!
HEROINE: Sophia is a NYC transplant who comes home to her small town of Poplar Falls in Colorado. She's just here for her grandmother's funeral and doesn't plan to stay long especially when she has unresolved issues with her estranged father
HERO: Braxton is the sexy, aloof and slightly obnoxious rancher who has already nicknamed Sophia, "Princess". Sophia throws his world upside down though when he realizes she is so much more than a pretentious city girl
This was sexy, heartwarming and emotional! A beautiful romance with sexual anticipation that cannot be denied. There are family dynamics at play with long lost secrets. Amazing side characters that made me fall in love with this family and this town!

This is a low 4 star from me.
Rustic Hearts is the story of how Sophia was taken (by her mother) from her home when she was 12, and moved to New York, far from the family ranch in Colorado.
I loved Braxton and Sophia together. I just thought it took WAY WAY too long for her father to come forward with the truth of what happened when she was taken by her mother. And frankly, I thought her mother was a complete nutcase and should have been held more accountable for everything Sophia lost. There were some little inconsistencies that slowed my enjoyment - like Huckleberry was supposed to be 18 years old and still no one could ride him on the regular?
It's definitely a slow burn. There's barely any attraction until they're sleeping together - which takes place much later in the book. And then Braxton's in love with her but he's hardly even said a kind word to Sophia, let alone that he likes her or loves her.
I'm off to attempt the 2nd book in the series. I did enjoy this book but I was definitely not invested early due to the long drag out of the angst in Sophia.

I for one, LOVE the Hallmark holiday movies and this felt just like one of them. Big city girl heads to a small town and something ends up calling to her soul there. The burn was slow, but the stolen glances and small touches were everything! Brax is such a good man. The kind of man, Sophie needs. They're both walking around with childhood trauma and they can mend and compliment each other.
My heart was with them both the entire book ❤️

Sweet
3.5 Sweet, light fast read - starts off well and jumps 20 years - had me interested right at the beginning. The story slowed down a bit at about 50% but I'm glad I finished.
