i dont think im gonna pick up kasie west's book anymore
Kasie I am so sorry…I feel so guilty. But I did not like this lol
This was a cute, fun and relatable read like all of the other Kasie West titles I’ve picked up. I had a dreadful anticipation about Maddie’s new money situation the whole time, which kept me reading and needing to know what was going to happen. Maddie and Seth were adorable and I smiled through all of their interactions. I’d recommend this read to any readers who love clean and sweet YA romance!
3,5 stars. It was a really entertaining, fun and adorable read!!
This is a light (but not TOO light) teen read that's more about newly 18yo Maddie winning the lottery than about the romance hinted to in the title.
Maddie's parents argue a lot and her brother seems headed off the rails. She's smart and motivated, but thinks that going to an Ivy League dream school that's more than a quick drive away is off the tables because her family needs her close by to keep them from falling apart.
In daily life at high school she slides by under the radar and is fine with that. She has her two BFFs and a job at the zoo she loooooves (not to mention a cute friend there that she likes...spending work hours with).
Then she wins a 50 million dollar jackpot, and things change. She hopes it will be for the better, but between her overly-trusting ways, assumptions she doesn't want to bother those around her to check on, and desperation to fix everyone and everything, problems--and attention--pile up. Those attempts end up causing her to become less truthful than she'd like to be at times, making her flail for the first time.
Now she needs to figure out how to dig herself out of the hole and learn how to navigate this new life--the good and the bad--and deal with the fallout in both cases.
It's a cute book but with some good messaging about trust and control.

ehhh this was okay, definitely not my favorite from Kasie West. but i really enjoy the romance.
(as i am someone who doesn't like spending money on stupid things, this book stressed me out immensely)
overall an ok book, quick read if you want to get out of a reading slump and nothing else seems appealing. neither the plot nor the characters were overly complex. they sometimes seemed to be even oversimplified. the dialogues lacked any depth and that didn't really help to connect with the story. everything was surface-level: conversations, problems, relationships.
the main character was rather dull; quite unmemorable, yet another pick-me-i'm-not-like-the-other-girls-girl who's just so different because she wears her hair in a messy bun and doesn't really party that much - which wouldn't have been annoying if the majority of female main characters wasn't written that way. she obviously makes some questionable choices and acts weirdly, blaming anyone and everyone for her own bad decisions.
i have been also promised "a very good romance" as the book was recommended to me and i expected a little bit more in that respect. the love interest was surely there, but the book lacked any forms of chemistry, tension and that kind of mutual pining that makes you weak in the knees. there were some little bits and pieces of angst (should i even call it angst?), but they were not as gut-wrenching and heart-squeezing as they could've been! this left me utterly disappointed.
i would certainly recommend it to freshly-turned teens and maybe not people pushing twenty or 20+ year olds. if you have, however, a lot of time on your hands and you want to make your flight/train ride go by faster, this could be a nice choice.

DNF. I felt no connection with THIS BOOK AT ALL. The main character is annoying and naïve and I didn’t care for the romantic connection. The summary made the book seem really cute, but I’m not wasting my time. This was the first Kasie West book I picked up, I hope the others aren’t like this one.
Have you ever read one specific book and just knew that something spectacular was going to happen in your life because of it? I knew when this book came out that it was going to be something else. I didn't know why I felt that way at the time, but I did and I kept holding off on buying it and reading it.
Then I finally bought it and had the ebook checked out from the library too to have the best of both worlds. And then I opened the book to the dedication page and it just felt like the dedication alone spoke to me.
The dedication was, "To all you readers who feel down on your luck. May your fortune soon change." I feel like Kasie West wrote that dedication specifically for me, because I had an awesome job opportunity that came up while reading this book. This may seem a bit silly, but I feel like I owe Kasie West a thank you for writing that dedication alone. That was just magical. I don't know about other readers, but I do like reading dedications. There are several good ones out there. But I know I will always remember this one.
Anyway, back to Lucky in Love by Kasie West. I don't think I was as excited about By Your Side as I was about Lucky in Love. I thought Kasie West's magical writing touch was missing in that book, but it was definitely back in Lucky in Love.
Lucky in Love was about an average girl who won the lottery and about how her life changed after. I really liked the other characters, especially Trina and Seth. I liked how the book had some diversity even though it was another high school type book. AND the main girl character liked reese's pieces and worked at the zoo. I thought those were also cool facts.
Basically this book is an excellent read when you want a book that's young adult contemporary romance because it had all of the cute, fluffy moments. Plus, who wouldn't want to read about an average teenager winning the lottery? That kind of stuff doesn't happen in real life, but it was still a nice read. I definitely hold this book up high along with P.S. I like You.
It was definitely a five star read for me.
