"Right then, even Misfit's catnip-laced hair ball couldn't bring me down."

In the beginning I had mixed feelings about this read. I normally really dislike books that are super unrealistic but this IS a cozy mystery and most of them usually are. They have to fit a lot into fewer pages so more liberties are taken, I think. The main character Krissy is VERY nosy, very inappropriate, and thinks there is absolutely nothing wrong with just running up to strangers and accusing them of things or asking them highly personal questions. Perhaps a little privileged as well. She rubbed me the wrong way in the beginning... well, most of the book actually, lol, but I overlooked it and just enjoyed the book for what it was. I laughed a lot while reading it, fell in love with her demon cat, Misfit, and found myself really rooting for the budding romance between her and Paul.
I read this as a quick, fun read and it delivered on that so I'll definitely pick up the next book in the series and see how it progresses. There are 9 books in this series and I'm assuming that character development will work it's way into each book a little at a time. That's fine with me. It fits the bill as a cozy read for me.

I really wanted to love this book but I just couldn't fall in love with it. Well... I couldn't really relate to Krissy.

The cover and title and snippet made me curious as to this book and series. However, once I started listening to the book... Okay how do I put this? Have you ever met a person that asked you out on a date and you agreed to go because they sound fun and cool? Then comes the date and you realize you made a rash decision and have to push through the awkward moments... Yeah that's how I felt when listening to this book.

I kept listening hoping it would get better, but I was let down.

Without going into details, Krissy was a self-obsessed, inconsiderate, jerk. I felt like it was unrealistic that people would not object or stand up to her when she would outright ask them personal questions regarding the victim.

I can't say that I'll completely write off the entire series, based on just one book. So, once I get over the slump of this book, I'll check out the next one.

This is the first cozy mystery I read and I hope it is not an accurate representation of them because I did not have a good time getting through this.

The main character Krissy is so annoying. She moves to a town and barely knows anyone and she thinks she can just accost these people and ask them extremely intrusive questions to solve a crime. The thing is she acts so erratic and eccentric that this book isn't believable at all. She was a terrible friend to her coffee shop co-owner and I kid you not at one point in the book she talked about wanting to slap another characters mother, even though SHE was the one who barged into their house asking intrusive questions about a murder and not caring that the widow of the victim was in tears. The mystery wasn't captivating and once I got to the reveal it was anti climatic. This series is not for me.

This was a fun light read. I didn't love the main character, I liked her business partner more.

I’ve never heard of this sub genre of mystery books called cozy mysteries until I ended up in the cozy mystery section in my Barnes and noble a couple days ago. I looked up what they were and it seems like something I would be interested in. The first novel I picked up was this one and I was super excited for it. A story about two best friends owning a book shop/ coffee shop together and then all of a sudden someone dies! It was very light hearted, fast paced and overall I enjoyed it! The only issue I had was the main character Krissy was a little bit too pushy.

Book #32 Read in 2017
Death by Coffee by Alex Erickson

This is the first in a cozy mystery series, set in a coffee shop/bookstore. Two friends open up the coffee shop/bookstore and a customer ends up dying for a peanut allergy shortly after his purchase, even though the coffee did not have nuts in it. Shop owner Krissy decides to begin her own investigation. Of course, she gets herself into some hot water along the way. This was a good, quick read and I will continue reading the series.

This book was absolutely not for me. I did not enjoy it.

I found the main character, our sleuth character, entirely annoying. She just isn't my cup of tea - pun unintended. I didn't relate to her, and I just really didn't find her likeable at all.

The mystery itself was fairly interesting, but I'm just really not into this setting, this town, or our sleuth character. This is a series I will definitely be skipping.

Couldn't. Just... No. MC wasn't cute, endearing or even nice. She has a cat, yay?

Nosy and rude and snotty, Krissy Hancock served coffee to man who later died across the street from her newly opened cafe/bookstore. As someone new to the town and literally knowing no one, this would be the golden opportunity to meet new friends right? Except, for an amateur sleuth she has no tact and no business asking anyone anything. At least figure out a nice way to get your questions into a conversation!

I don't have cats but I like them well enough. But when there's a longer paragraph about the cat's refusal or inability to use the litter box than an explanation of why the main character talks so cruelly to people trying to be friendly, I'm sorry, but I lost patience. I tried to keep going because it was a free book but I couldn't. 37% DNF, didn't even care whodunit.
